BRCC's Nursing Program

You are reading page 3 of BRCC's Nursing Program. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

I am not sure...you are getting me a little nervous!

I don't know what the reasoning behind the dean swap was...nor what that means for me and my classmates.

Girl Don't Get Nervous Hopefully This Is Just A Rumor And You Are Good To Go, But I Would Definately Find Out What The Deal Is.

easy to say...I am in count down mode...what if my count down will be longer??!!!????!!

dying to know what teacher you are talking about as well:eek:

I don't know where you all are getting this info from! As long as you have a Louisiana license you can work. No hospital expects a school to be accredited for the first class. The school is accredited by the Louisiana Board of Nursing, but can't get any NLN or other accreditations until they graduate the first class based on the NClex pass rate.

I talked to a nursing instructor (a family friend) who said you can work as a nurse in most places with just a RN license. But you have to graduate from a accreditate school to get a bsn or higher.

Did your teachers say anything about this????? :icon_roll

Eyespy, this is the last response to any of your questions since you didn't answer any of our questions about who the instructor was whose class failed at SU or whatever school it was. I've already spoken to the school where I will go to get my MSN and I will be accepted. Anyone with common since knows were the first class to graduate from the school. Good luck to you and I hope you find some other sources of info b/c the ones you currently have don't know much.

I was just trying to get information about BRCC nursing school before I apply in the spring, not trying to make nobody nervus.

The teacher I talked about before was a medical surgery teacher at SU and OLOL. She applied to OLOL last semester when she was at BRCC but they wouldnt hire her back. I no this is true cause our friend teaches at OLOL.

More changes at BRCC. *name deleted* is going to work at the genral hospital. who is giong to be the new dean?

Can anybody tell me what to expect on the HESI at BRCC? Does it have Chemistry? Physics? Biology? Anatomy? Is everything thats in the study guide on the test?

The HESI at BRCC does not have any science on it.

Does anybody know where I might be able to take A and P I independent study?? Thanks

I would like to apply to the nursing program at brcc. However, I am a little confused after reading these posts. Is the nursing program accredited? If not, can I practice out of the state of Louisiana when I am finished?

I am currently at BRCC and this is off the website " BRCC has attained candidacy status from the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC).We are in the process of completing the requirements for accreditation. BRCC holds initial approval from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing." I know that they only accept 40 students once a year and there are about 300 students on campus trying to apply.

Does anyone know the average GPA and HESI score of previously accepted classes? I applied for the Fall 2010 class with a 3.75 GPA and 90% average on the HESI, but I have not taken any classes at BRCC. I finished all of the general education classes in 2006; before BRCC even had a nursing program. Thanks.

I have a 3.6 GPA and got 95% HESI. Didn't get accepted. I was told that they look at how many general ed classes you took at BRCC. I hadn't taken any. Good luck!

Hospice Nurse LPN:

Did you appeal or apply anywhere else? What class did you apply for? I didn't apply anywhere else, and I don't have a good feeling about BRCC. When I went to turn in my application (2 weeks before the deadline) the person that took it told me that she didn't know if there were any spots left. When I told her the deadline wasn't until March 2nd she told me that the nursing program co-ordinator had been calling her and asking for specific applications by name. This worries me b/c I don't think the selection process is going to be fair. On the website it lists the criteria in order as 1. GPA, 2. HESI score, 3. classes taken at BRCC; it seems that they should look at classes taken at BRCC after they have looked at GPA and test scores. Thanks for the response.

They accept applicants based on GPA, HESI, and how many of your pre-reqs you have taken at BRCC...in that order. If you and another person have the same GPA and HESI score but the other person has taken more classes at BRCC, the other person will have the upper hand. It is a pretty difficult program to get into, as someone said before, they only take 40 and over 300 apply. Also, I think they also hold spots for those needing to re-take the class, but that I am not sure about. If you have any questions, your best bet is to call and talk to the dean herself, she is the most reliable source.

Thanks, I wanted to call but I didn't want to bug them. I've already called to see when decision letters go out, so I didn't want to call again (not that they would remember me or anything, LOL). I'm really hoping that I get in, but I don't have a good feeling about it. I've already done all I can, so now all I do is wait (and it's killing me). Thanks.

I went to BRCC and finished my pre-reqs, but didn't reapply for the nsg program. I've applied to SLU for the bridge program. I've got to test out of 3 classes, take pharm, and LPN to RN bridge this summer. If I pass them all, I will be able to join the Jr. class in the fall. Good luck to you!
