Brandon Regional Vs Tampa General

U.S.A. Florida

I would like your opinion on either one of these hospitals. The info I am really interested in knowing is nurse : patient ratio, major diagnosis affecting either med surg or peds units, how the staff is treated , benefits ? Were you happy ? Thanks for any response to this thread.

Helllo-Wow could you pick two hospitals that are more different? Tampa General is a large Trauma 1, teaching facility. While Brandon is a smaller private hospital. It's like night and day.

I worked at a teaching hospital for 7 yrs before accepting a travel assignment at Brandon. Talk about culture shock!!! The entire place runs different. As far as Brandon Regional as a place to work--The people are great. The training was well organized. But, the hospital has many problems.

I work in critical care. Brandon's idea of an ICU patient is a teaching hospitals floor or step down unit patient. But, I will say it's easy money. Brandon does not challenge me mentally or professionally. But, it's easy money. My suggestion, try a travel assignment first. See if you like it--they hire traveller's year round.

As far as TGH, I have not worked there but everything I hear sounds like its your typical teaching facility--high acuity patients, busy, busy , busy, good pay and lots of learning opportunities.

I hope I was helpful. This is my first time to write a blog---M

I work at TGH - Pay is is pretty good. Benefits are excellent.

Darlene,

I am a new grad who will have 1 year exp. if I decide to move to Tampa. Is it hard to get on at TGH and how is the pay? Also, what would be a good area to live that is not outrageous -if working at TGH?

Thanks

I could be wrong, but isn't Brandon a forprofit? Didn't it use to be a Columbia/HCA?

As far as travel assignments, I believe that it has a a mileage rule (will not hire travelers that have a legal/tax residence within a certain mile radius, effectively locking out "local" travelers. Which could be a problem if the OP already lives within easy commute distance.

I work at brandon regional. i took my firstt travel assgnmnt here 3 months ago where come from okl. brandon is ok. after bypassing some of the downs here ive come to like it. i work in a overflow type unit. i re signed another 3 month contract 1 month ago, but in dec im going to TGH d/t brandon doesn't want to rehire agentcy or travel nurses.
