Brand new to excelsior and confused about registering

Published

Hi everyone! I am brand new to Excelsior's program and I only need the core nursing classes. I have registered for information literacy and am confused as to how registration for the nursing classes works....

They all have a waitlist with about 100 people waiting to register. How has everyone been able to get spots? I waitlisted for ALL of them.

Does this mean if no spots are available then when the next term starts people rush to register as the classes are posted?

This is all very brand new to me so thanks ahead of time for your help!

I tested out of all the exams and didn't take any of the 'classes' so I never had to be on any wait list. I didn't think $1400 for a class was worth it when you could spend less than 400 and get the practice exams and studygroup101 and test whenever you are ready.

Yeah, this new "class" process is much costlier and takes longer than just testing out for the courses.

Are the class sessions required now or just an option?

I've heard about those two different ways of either just taking the tests or taking the classes too. I'd prefer to do the classes so it's a little more like a school semester schedule and gives me a deadline that I HAVE to finish by, but with these waitlists I might as well just do it completely on my own! Thanks for the info :)

Hello,

I have been a paramedic for 7 years and in EMS for 10 years and I have a degree in Biology. I was accepted to Excelsior and the only courses I need to take are the nursing courses. I have not enrolled yet as I was kinda discouraged by the hefty per credit hour price x the 36 credits I need to do. Can you explain more about how you were able to just take the exams without taking the classes? Did the college advisors explain this or do you know where I can read more about taking the exams vs. attending all the classes. I have access to a lot of course information and textbooks from a couple of friends that have completed their RNs through traditional programs. Thank you!!!

A lot of info, but worth the read. Please do yourself a favor and download the catalog and read about the ADN program.
