boy or girl?

Has anyone ever been at a birth where the parents thought their baby was gonna be one sex, but ended up being the other? I'm not talkin' about those parents who chose to be surprised, but those who saw the girl or boy parts on the u/s... And, what were there reactions?

I was expecting a girl the first time around thanks to the ultrasound, and ended up with a boy. I was surprised when they told me (of course), but I fell madly in love the second I looked at him.

Fortunately, his room was decorated in a neutral style. We just had to take back the clothes.

I'm 38 wks with baby number three and we decided to NOT find out this time because of this very thing.

I had a pt about two years ago that was having number three, was told she was a girl and we joked about what if the baby was a boy, he'd have to wear a lot of pink etc... I knew her as she used to live next door to me... Anyway the baby was born and the doc (who had told her that the baby was a girl) announces "it's a boy" and we all laughed thinking he was joking since earlier in the day we had gone on and on about that very thing... Well it was NO joke. They had a bunch of pink stuff and not even a boy name... I still see them at the store every now and then and they still laugh with me about this.

Yes, that reminds me about the name. I only had a girl's name chosen, and my son went a couple of days with no name. The nurse kept pressing for a name, and so finally I chose one under duress. Unfortunately, I have never really like the name we ended up choosing.

When I was pregnant with my first, no one was doing routine US. But many people had little ways of predicting the sex of the baby and everyone was predicting boy. Just before delivery, I was given general anesthesia and my husband was not in the delivery room when our daughter was born. The doctor walks out with the baby to show my husband, who took one look and said "That's not mine. We're having a boy".

I saw one case where the family was misinformed AFTER the baby was born! It was NOT a case of ambiguous genitalia, simply an inexperienced EMT in the back of a poorly lit ambulance who looked down at this premie baby girl with the typical widely separated labia and prominent privy parts and announced "It's a boy".

When they arrived at the hospital, my coworker who was working nursery unwrapped the blankets and said "What a cute little girl". Immediate chorus from the family "It's a boy!". She assured them - "I'm a nursery nurse, I know the difference". Grandma wasn't taking anyone's word for it, pushed everyone out of the way and checked out baby for herself. Fortunately everyone in the family was quite happy with the result and had a good laugh, though that poor EMT took quite a bit of ribbing, both on the job and since it was a small community, from family and friends outside!
