Hi, all
How's everyone?
I'm moving from Boston to Arizona next month, August.
I've read so many threads saying no job or hard to find a job in AZ.
I know economy is so hard everywhere in this country, and hospitals or any kind of health care settings
don't hire as they used to be.
BUT...how bad is in AZ, especially metro Phoenix-Mesa, Gilbert, Sun city, Scottdale, 50 miles of Phoenix?
I have 3 years experiences in sub-acute/rehab/home visit. Unfortunately, no hospital setting experiences
Do you, as a resident in AZ, think it's really, really so bad time to get a job in that state?
Or is it still possible to get a job if I knock on every door?
Have you seen any your friend-nurse-moving to other states just because of no job in AZ?
I'm so worried about it since I have to support my family
Can I ask one more question?
How long would it take to get a finger print card?
I've read RN Endorsement instruction, and it seems taking forever to get it-fingerprint, verification etc...
Any...any advice, information will be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!

I would not recommend moving down here and trying to get a job in a hospital with no hospital experience, especially if you are supporting a family and don't have a job lined up already. Yes, it IS that bad.

Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler I like to call the "Golden Circle of Healthcare." There are a bazillion hospitals and LTCs/SNFs that circle the cities. I have 3 years experiences in sub-acute/rehab/home visit. Unfortunately, no hospital setting experiences Do you, as a resident in AZ, think it's really, really so bad time to get a job in that state? For a New Grad, HARD, for someone with a few years experience, not hard.Or is it still possible to get a job if I knock on every door? LTC/SNFs are always hiring, esp for those with experience. Pay more too.Have you seen any your friend-nurse-moving to other states just because of no job in AZ? Seen people move to obtain department/facility specific positions but have not seen anyone leave because they could not find anything at all. I'm so worried about it since I have to support my family Can I ask one more question? How long would it take to get a finger print card? Depends upon the FBI and what they are doing. As little as a week or two or as long as many months. Also depends upon your criminal background and how "deep" your history was.I've read RN Endorsement instruction, and it seems taking forever to get it-fingerprint, verification etc...Any...any advice, information will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

The lower 202 and 60 freeways have many hospitals/facilities surrounding them...plus inexpensive housing.

Im not a nurse, but what I would suggest is that you apply to some positions and use an AZ address. Then if you get some interest, come out and interview. If you land a job, get out here as quickly as possible. You do have a leg up being that you are an experienced RN. Maybe apply at a rehab facility or LTC. I see plenty openings for RN's it's apparently the new grad rn's that are having such a hard time. I personally have decided not to immediately pursue my RN, until things turn around....

I've just moved to PHX area due to my husband's relocation. I started my RN application process before moving. Fingerprint card took about 2 weeks to show up. Got temporary license in about 4 or 5 weeks (?)
As for jobs, I have 2 yrs experience and have been submitting to 2-3 jobs per day for two weeks and have not gotten a call yet. I've seen a lot of requests for home care nurses.
If you haven't already, check out
Jobs
and of course Career builder
also AllHealthcareJobs.com - Job Search for Healthcare Professionals they repeat a lot of listings, but it's a good starting site.

Jobs are not easy for a nurse with experience to get either. When you do get an
interview, ask them how many people they are interviewing. Usually it at least
5 or more.
There are job postings, but there might be 100 job applicants for one job! I had
an interview awhile back at the County Hospital and the manager told me that
250 people applied for that job. She interviewed 10. In the meantime, I found
another job before she got back to me.
I got an internal transfer last week. I had to go through the same interviews an
outside person would get. They interviewed 5 candidates. I was the lucky
winner. I didn't ask how many people applied.

If you have experience in LTC, you might find a job in there. But make sure it is a good facility to work for (facility with good rate: at least 3 stars). Some are prety nasty (one star-big problem there). They can fire you anytime. For hospital job? It is tough if you don't have hospital experience.
