Boston College Direct Entry 2018

Published

Hey everyone! Starting a thread for Boston College Direct Entry MSN for the Fall of 2018.

I put down my deposit for PMHNP, but may be unable to attend dependent upon whether or not I can get federal loans or any scholarships. Still considering Seattle University (interviewing March 2).

I just put my deposit down for Women's Health. What did you decide to go with?

So stressful. I'm still considering Vanderbilt... and SUNY Downstate for an ABSN with the hopes of then getting into their NP program.

Yes it is stressful and a huge decision. There are many factors to consider. I'm accepting at Columbia.

Interesting. I'm trying to decide whether to still consider them or not too. What made you go that way?

My decision is purely subjective and personal, of course. Part of my thought process is similar to what TeachEm said up above^^ (#186). Although I'm a probably considered an "older" student, I do like the idea of working as an RN for a bit prior to the NP program, even if it takes longer to get to NP. And while I'd be happy doing AG primary care, I have a stronger affinity for AG acute care, and during this decision process I had to be really honest with myself about that. It's been a long, twisty road to get to this point in my career change and I don't want to ignore any of my desires. Plus, I like the DNP concept and I've always wanted to live in NYC, so everything's pulling me in Columbia's direction (except for my wallet). I was so tempted to go with BC, and also seriously considered Vanderbilt and UPenn. I didn't see any program as the right way or wrong way. I just considered my bigger picture, and where I imagined myself in 5-10 years.

I look forward to seeing you at Columbia! :cat:

I decided not go to BC, and there was 20K scholarship attached to my offer letter. Hopeful it will go to someone else who decided to accept.

Hi everyone,

Would those of you who were admitted mind sharing your stats? I'm a recent Bio graduate debating on considering nursing as a career. But since my CGPA is low (3.0), I'm not sure if I would be a competitive applicant.

Thank you!

Good luck on your applications! The GPA is only a small part of the application. My college GPA was a 3.2 but my prereq GPA for the classes that BC required was around a 3.7. However, I have known other students who have gotten into just as competitive Direct Masters entry programs with lower GPAs. They made up for it by having great LORs along with awesome essays. . For the GRE I got a 156 in reading, 152 in writing, and a 4.0 in writing. I found the GRE the hardest part of the processes. Good luck with the process!!!

Hi Boston College Class of 2020,

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and applied for Boston College Direct MSN for PMHNP specialty. I was placed on a wait list and currently on track to finish up all my prerequisites by June 30. Can anyone speak to when and how the wait list work for you last year when you applied? Anyone who was wait-listed and admitted?

For those of you currently attending, how is your experience?

Thank you so much!
