Do we really have to study community nursing??? I hate it!!! It sucks, and it is boring... The simplicity of the course makes me feel stupid... :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
Freelancer, just keep an open mind about it. I have no intentions on going into community nursing, but it is so cool. I loved the teaching aspect of community nursing. Wellness is so important and the general public has no idea. The whole point of community nursing is to teach wellness to the community so they can identify risk factors and s/s of disease and illness before it's too late for many of them. I can tell you that my greatest moment thus far in nursing school happened in community nursing. I live in a very rural area and we were taking BP's one day at a grocery store. I had this delightful little old lady 78 years old come up to the table. I went to take her BP and I got 220/110. I immediately called over my instructor to double check me because I never had a reading this high before. My instructor confirmed it. I asked her if she had a HX of HTN and she said "No, but I've had blurred vision the last couple of days so I made an eye appointment" God love her. No wonder why she had blurred vision. We called her PCP and he wanted her to get to the ER ASAP. This lady was driving herself and we had to call her daughter to come and pick her up. The thought that I may have saved her from having a stroke or MI just by taking her BP that day, has been my favorite moment so far in nursing school. What could have happened if she got in that car and had a stroke while driving? She could have killed herself and an entire family. I just wanted to share this with those that go into things without an open mind. Sometimes, something great will happen that makes it so worth while.
