:grn: This is the 3rd quarter I've taken a beating at the bookstore. I understand that books are expensive, I've already got a degree. But my goodness!!!
For those of you farther into your programs, does it lighten up a bit? You'd think they'd start to rely on some of the materials we've already got - the books are fairly comprehensive.
Maybe?
I haven't purchased any textbooks this year because I discovered the wonderful invention that is the Reserve Desk at the library. All of my course textbooks are available as in-library loan so I just do my readings there, for free.
Last term I did purchase a few that were actually useful but I have WAY too many books from first year that I will probably never open again just taking up space on my bookshelf.
Also the reviews on Amazon can be extremely useful - one review for my (terribly-rated) assigned Patho book gave a link to a much better one that I purchased instead.

At the community college I used to attend (moved recently to another state), the college had contracted its bookstore function out to Follett. (Learned this from a faculty member after my last semester there.)
By my own research, for a specific text, I found the bookstore's price (new) was EXACTLY 110% of the PUBLISHER'S suggested retail price.
Smells very much like a ripoff and kickback situation.
