Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary. So much more than a dictionary. Awesome reference book and small enough to tote in your nursing bag.

tabers! i second the motion!!!
pdr is a waist of time and money!!! get davis drug guide or mosbys...!!!!!
(hint: all that the pdr is is those information papers that one finds in medication containers)
extra curricular reading (a must, mind you!):
echo heron's intensive care: the story of a nurse.
I dont think she meant drug books or medical dictionaries (I'm sure she knows that she needs a drug book) I think she meant like general nursing interventions books...

It's not clinical books but..
By Echo Heron, "Condition Critical", "Intensive Care" and "Tending Lives."
And for preservation of your own mental health, "25 Things That Nurses do to Self Destruct by T.Allen, J.Brady and L. Gasparis Vonfrolio.
