Books for classes: Do I need to buy all or could I rent

Published

I am a traditional nursing student @ the University of Miami. I will be taking nur 304, nur 307, nur 314, nur 315, 311 this fall. Do I need to buy all the books, or could I just rent? In other words, will I use these books again other semesters?

Can you find the syllabi for the other semesters? Either that or stop by the campus bookstore and see what the students in the next few semesters have to buy.

I've had classmates to rent books but I've found that by shopping around online, I can buy the books for around the same amount as the rental fee.

Also, I'm told by previous nursing students that I shouldn't sell my books because they found they needed them in later semesters. So, renting might not be the best option in that case.

I rent nursing books all the time!! But I rent only after I look on Amazon and see if someone happens to sell the book for the same or less cost to rent. And I also check the school library (why buy when you can borrow for free??) And I don't care about keeping most of my books. The books I DID buy and keep were Patho, pharm, and med surg (because you will always use those for reference) and books from the STRAIGHT A'S series in pedi and mother/baby (I recommend this series!! If you read your textbook and then read the Straight A's...you should see a letter grade difference in your classes). I rented my pedi/OB book and ended up having to return it. But I bought the straight As books for them as review for NCLEX. Unless you have financial aid that will cover the costs of textbooks... the college bookstore is not your friend!
