We need this book for class Physical Examination and Health Assessment by Carolyn Jarvis
The 7th ed is 2015, the 6th ed is 2011... the cheapest used price for 7th I can find is about $115. Cheapest for 6th is around $20.
I need your advice please because I am counting pennies. Should I rent the 7th ed for $44, buy the 6th, or wait and hope for a better price for 7th to buy?
Thank you
(there's a lab manual book with this to buy too, I was going to get the 7th for that)

Is the lab manual required? If not, skip it. All it has are practice questions. While it can be helpful to have practice questions, I can say I used this manual very little. The questions weren't NCLEX style questions, more knowledge based than critical thinking.
What I used the most was the Pocket Companion that goes with the text. It was small enough to keep in my clipboard at clinicals. I found I used this the most of all 3 books.
I had the 6th edition for all three books.

When I was in school, some of us had older edition, some of us had newer. We didn't see much different. Except for nicer pictures and few add on info or pic. If you use an older edition, you can compare with your friend. But I'm sure you will do just fine with older version. Most nursing skills haven't changed much. Some did change according to an evidence based practice (EBP) research. Keep that in mind.

Are you sure it isn't the pocket guide that you need only? The pocket guide is a great little book that we had been required to have. No questions just physical assessment. That book is worth buying. I've never seen the textbook. It's like a step by step guide to the physical assessment. I can't imagine a big difference in editions for that.

When I did health assessment the lab manual was absolutely needed. We had to do exercises in it and rip out the pages to turn them in. So if I were you I'd ask your teacher. I had a classmate who had an older edition and she stopped using it because she she could never find the corresponding pages. She was my partner so she just ended up using mine.
Thank you guys I appreciate the help.
I just got the whole book list now for 1 class.
I need:
1. the Jarvis lab manual and textbook
2. Fundamentals of nursing by Potter and Perry both text and study guide
3. Basic intermediate and advanced skills 4th ed Video by Mosby
4. Physical examination and health assessment Video skills by Mosby
The book store wants $407 for that and they'll give a free Nclex book by Saunders.
I haven't priced the videos yet for used, but for new they're like $100 each but seems like I'm better off just getting later editions from what you guys said about Jarvis (except for maybe the manual)

Personally I like the pictures and diagrams in 6th Edition Jarvis better. i did find the workbook helpful. An older edition pocket guide should be fine as well.

Have you considered renting your textbooks? Bookrenter.com has great prices for renting books and they include free shipping both ways. I've rented all my books except for my pharm and med-surg book. It has saved me hundreds, plus you can still write it off on your taxes.
Thanks all! I found an ebook for half the price.
Babeinboots yes thx I have rented before .. I just thought that to sell them would be a better price for the new books if those were what I was getting ... but that's definitely a great option. I rented most of my gen ed books thankfully.
