book...where to find cheaper books

Published

Starting school shortly and ready to buy books. The bookstore is selling a bundled package for $320 but I see the books online for $150...I'm not sure if I would be missing out on things in the bundle if I buy online. What do u guys think?

I go thru ebates and get cash back when I buy my books and Barnes & Noble, Abebooks, etc....I got a check for close to $100 last semester on top of the cheaper book prices.

Do.not.buy.a.bundle. I don't even know why teachers bother to do this, aside from netting the bookstore big bucks. I remember having to buy an A&P for $300 my first semester and there was nothing special about it. I could have bought it separately online and saved a ton. You live and learn I guess. With this economy, I try to find the cheapest way to get books. The last semester and this semester I spent less than $50 for all my books. I just sold last semester's books for $55. This makes up for my freshman year foolishness ;) Here are my approaches:

1. bigwords.com to search a huge data base of books. It grabs prices from the many online bookstores which saves you a lot of trouble.

2. International editions, got a brand new med/surg book for half the cost and made profit selling it.

3. Older editions. I often get these books for less than $5 and have never had any trouble using older books.

4. Sell your books! If you want them to review for nclex, get an older edition to replace it. But from experience, a good nclex review book will be more than enough.

I do a comparison also, usually Amazon had the best price though.

I agree about www.half.com, I have been buying all of my books there forever. But you need to make sure the CD or online access included when you buy them. Otherwise I buy slightly used books that are practically new for half price and then I re-sell the ones I don't want when I'm done!

Thanks guys I don't have much time to make up my mind so u guys have been a big help. Amazon sounds great.

I buy wherever is cheapest, even if I am getting books from a dozen different sources.
