BON order on RN CA

Published

Hello. I don't know if this is the correct place. Just new here. I am BON for CA for an incident as RN in 2011. But since then, I have had the chance to become an NP. Sept 2016 was when order came into effect. So, I cant find work as NP, or RN. Interviews for RN question my "you are NP, do you know what RN does? And how will you react when NP tells you things?". As NP, they want someone independent, not cosigning and checking up on most charts and me consulting with them twice a shift. I know there are you guys out there for a bit longer than me without Jobs, but it just gets psych downgrading each time there is a face to face interview and you have to disclose the order and to have 2 job offers rescinded, although it was known to them ahead of time on the application. I was also reported to the NPDB but not OIG as of the last time I checked. I have AANP certification and AANP has reminded mw to apply again for this year... And the main person in charge of renewal also assured me via email to apply. Juat need to get out of this rut... Not many PT jobs, as I can only do PT due to family responsibilities. Just thanks for listening.

I hope it will pass soon. I feel you Zahir! I have applied for family counseling support position, at least I can use my BA psychology with some nursing knowledge somewhere.... Or win the over $400 mill power ball jackpot

Hahaha. Hey, who knows, we can all use a little help.

Oh, probation.... They took 6 months or so to sign the settlement for me, which then gave me a month before it started for me to look for something before probation started. My employer knew about this way before when accusation was posted, assured me it will be ok for now (when I gave them the possible outcome of probation or reprimand letter, moat likely probation) then fired me after finding out it was probation I got... When they knew way back then. So I had saved as much money as I could, not trusting ppl (no documentation, never done, right?). So goes it.

"I get knocked down, but I get up again

You are never gonna keep me down

I get knocked down, but I get up again

You are never gonna keep me down

I get knocked down, but I get up again"

I never really cared for Katy Perry... Till my baby was playing this on utube after Sing. It's his favorite song. It helps before interviews for me to mentally have these lyrics before going in.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag

Drifting thought the wind

Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin

Like a house of cards

One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel already buried deep

Six feet under scream

But no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there's still a chance for you

'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light

And let it shine

Just own the night

Like the Fourth of July

'Cause baby you're a firework

Come on show 'em what your worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework

Come on let your colors burst

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down

You don't have to feel like a waste of space

You're original, cannot be replaced

If you only knew what the future holds

After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe a reason why all the doors are closed

So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow

And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light

And let it shine

Just own the night

Like the Fourth of July

'Cause baby you're a firework

Come on show 'em what your worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework

Come on let your colors burst

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down

Boom, boom, boom

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

It's always been inside of you, you, you

And now it's time to let it through

'Cause baby you're a firework

Come on show 'em what your worth

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework

Come on let your colors burst

Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"

You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down down down

Boom, boom, boom

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Boom, boom, boom

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Keep applying and you might like it better than nursing; I'll be honest I really hated bedside nursing-its why I chose to do an NP because I was tired of just completing orders; I also have a BS in Biology and going to apply for an emergency teaching credential and if I get probation Im going to consider other similar fields in clinical research, coordinator positions, or perhaps work for the city. Im not sure what will happen, but I cannot be blacklisted for years because of documentation issues which the hospital should have corrected if it was considered so "egregious."

I wanted to be an NP because I got tired of correcting Doctors Medical orders. I frequently have to tell them what meds dosage or remind them of possible labs, to give/do in the patients in ICU. Sometimes the doctors don't listen, and I have to go to my charge nurse and then the doctors attending before I get any respect. But being an NP does it mean you get respect either. Some nurses are angry at you, and some doctors think you don't know anything.

Also, I thought, if I furnished an order, it would be on me. Not that the doctor's order, if I disagree and didn't document I went up the chain of command, I would still get in trouble for giving it. It's also funny and ironic, that when I go to see a doctor or interviews, some of them remember me and tell me that they remember me because I was a good nurse and because I took care of patients very well that is why they remember me. Very ironic.

I was an ICU RN as well! Did you have your NP before all this probation hit?? I don't understand why they would discipline your NP license also if you were working as an RN. The 2 professions are so different!! Im worried because if the BON treats nurses like they are I can only wonder if being an NP would be any different.

According to the board of nurses, NP are nurses. I worked in ICU for 4 years and got my NP barely the last year 2011 I worked there before I was fired for this incident. I then had been working as an NP for another four years till 2015 when I got the accusation and 2016 for probation.

SO, because in California NPs are RNs, my public health nursing, my Furnishing nursing, my NP licenses all are under probation. It's a travesty, but that's why my licenses and my DEA certificate are under scrutiny. Which is crazy, I never furnished anything in violation of the DEA. Nor have I diverted nor trafficked any narcotics. The doc of course who wrote order and the pharmacy who brought over the order, after I had talked to them and made them aware of dosing (provided the meds) are clean. So is the charge RN and the attending who were consulted. All who denied ever knowing anything when asked.

But yes. BON controls all nursing licenses. Including NP, is why I can't find anything so far. Interviews say yes, until they find out about probation a little later. They all want NPs to work independently, which my probation needs me on minimal supervision of face to face plus other things including chart reviews like a PA.

So you are disciplined as an NP also for some RN error? WOW. The BON makes absolutely ZERO sense. I am surprised you are even looking at CNA positions if you have been working as an NP ..that is so unfortunate! There are so many catch 22's on those probation stipulations which makes it so difficult for one to get hired. Unfortunately nurses are so disposable...you make one mistake and the hospital can just dispose of you ...like trash..makes me so angry. Im so sorry your employer fired you -they could have at least given you some sort of other position to accommodate you and Im also surprised the BON didn't care about your impeccable work performance after your mistake! So you learned your lesson but they still don't care even after 4 years of good evaluations and letters of rec?? I'd be so furious...Because from a logical standpoint if you are considered an "unsafe" nurse or a risk to public safety ..it would have been when you made that mistake...not 4 years later!! you also did everything you could do better yourself...you advanced your education, became certified...but all of that doesn't matter????!!! Then what are you supposed to do??? Its almost like the punishment is the same for every single transgression regardless of how minor or major the mistake was: Probation. Im sorry, but I'm getting pissed for you!!! Perhaps we should have gotten our Physician Assistant licenses instead ...I highly doubt the medical board would be so ridiculous as the BON !

Your story also makes me not want to be in this profession at all.

If you look up the BON members notice how you are educated more than 95% of them...also notice that the president has ZERO critical care experience and many other members aren't even nurses...but they are going to tell YOU that you can't critically think.

Yes. Probation as NP for RN incident 2011. I am looking for any positions that will fulfill probation and get me out ASAP. Here we can petition to end probation early, but we need to have probation fulfilled before asking for this. So I don't mind the work or pay. Yep. Fired x2. As RN and NP. I know ppl say probation is not big deal, but they have never experienced it, is why I said earlier if the board members had to switch shoes with us and know what kind of sentence they are handing down, then maybe they will think differently? Or not. Yep. It doesn't matter the mistake. Same punishment.

Oh, it also includes classes ($30 ea x6) and a psych eval ($5k) plus stress class that I must fulfill. I am psych cleared! Yaaay!!! So.... Just so you know ahead what probation means. :(

They do tell me I can't think critically. It is written in the probation order, same as "Gross negligence". So I hope you get an awesome lawyer who can get you cleared! Probation is big deal.

Oh. I forget to add.... Had to take a semester of pharm uppee division again paying University fees...

What classes are they requiring you take??! Stress class? And an upper division pharm class??? ----> I'm sure your NP program made you take 2! Wow. I have a good lawyer but you just never know...I have a feeling it doesn't matter tho after listening to your story. If I were you...I would be so pissed off lol!! I would find any job, volunteer or not to work off that requirement and then find a non-nursing job until the probation requirement falls off. I just did a random search and for volunteer opportunities try this: Smaller clinics and underserved areas would LOVE to have a free RN/NP volunteer. Also would a physical therapist aide, phlebotomist, Scribe, or EMT satisfy that requirement?

So far I took chain of command. Then there's med error, and a few others. They are online. They have the in class pharm , which I took already, 15 weeks, including narcotics...a in class stress mgmt class I need.... But Board has to okay the in class classes.

Oh yes. I was so pissed, but I don't have money to go to court. The board has known to say "mo" to judge's order and overturn that for their own punishment. And add more charges during court hearing. So.... Re PT aide, etc. Yes. They require DCA licenses, which also govern BON licenses... So I must surrender my license, have it reported under NPDB again as non compliant probation bc I couldn't fill it, and this geys taken to the OIG.gov which MAY put a blacklist on my name for future Federal employment, bc any surrender licenses with a specific cause they deem as blacklist would be blacklisted. Definite blacklist would be diversion, trafficking, fraud of HHS or CMS etc. Sorry I had too much time on my hands to look up consequences of this. And then I can't get those other licenses
