Bohecker Accreditation

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hi everyone,

I am planning to attend Bohecker College - Cincinnati in December 2009. However, I keep reading post after post on this site indicating that Bohecker has lost their accreditation. I am confused by this. Bohecker offers RETS College's Nursing program, and RETS program is accredited by the Ohio Board of Nursing as well as NLNAC (I just checked both sites, so I know this is current and accurate). It also states in my paperwork from Bohecker that the college has instituational accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Furthermore, "Bohecker College - Cincinnati is accredited to award Occupational Associate's Degrees and Diplomas. Bohecker College - Cincinnati is registered with the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, 35 E. Gay Street, Suite 403, Columbus, Ohio 43215."

I am just wondering where everyone is getting their information about Bohecker. I did a Google search for Bohecker losing accreditation, and this site is the only one that keeps coming up. Are you referring to the school itself losing accreditation, or the Nursing program? As I stated before, the Nursing program is RETS College's program, and it is still fully accredited according to all applicable websites (BON, ABHES, NLNAC, etc). According to the school's website, the school is still accredited. Can anyone show me PROOF to contradict any of this? I am getting ready to spend $20,000 on getting my LPN and do not want it to be wasted. Thank you.

Thank you so much for that reply! That kind of changes everything for me. I'm reluctant now. I would not graduate until 3/2011 because I'm doing the part-time evening program. I'm not at all sure that I want to take a chance on this now. I will definitely call the BON and see what they can tell me about this. It's scary.... and I do appreciate your honesty. I was so drawn to Bohecker because of the fact that I could go in the evenings and work in the mornings. I can't find any other evening programs in my area and there's not way I can switch to nights at my job. And it's not so easy to just "find a new job" these days.

Best of luck to you in your career.

yea, I was in the same situation, couldn't work days because I'm a single mother, so I worked nights, so I just quit and moved back in with my parents until I get done with school, In my opinion, that's the only thing bohecker has to offer, night classes...they want what we have and can do anything to make the sale, and believe me, they made a damn good sale to us. Calling the BON is the only way you are going to get a straight answer...if I knew now what I know then, I wouldn't have chosen Bohecker in columbus. Everyone in my class feels that way. But good luck to you with everything!!

I just finished the RN program at Bohecker. Regarding the nursing classes, I think I know which instructor you're talking about. There were 10 people out of 35 that failed in the last semester because of her class. Going to the DON isn't going to help(she's clueless). Don't waste your money on an attorney the school just stone walls them. Her tests are messed up..just do the best that you can and try not to read too much into them.

I live in Cincinnati and I've just applied to bohecker's LPN program. My questions is, upon completion of the program will I be able to sit for boards and be an LPN. Reading the blogs has got me worried.

I have just applied to Boheckers LPN program hee in Cincinnati. My question is will I be able to sit for my boards and get my (LPN) license in PN.

Bohecker cincinnati is not NLN accredited. If a Bohecker employee told you that call me 7210200. Bohecker is provisionally approved by the Oh Nursing Board. The school has ABHES accreditation for student loans. But the ADN is not accredited. RETS accreditation only covers the Centerville campus. On the NLNAC web page schools with satellite campuses; Miami & Kent list the satellite. NLNAC is the only accreditation body recognized by the VA for accreditation and employment as an RN.

If Bohecker in Cincinnati isn't accredited what about The one in Columbus? I graduated from Bohecker-Columbus October 2009. I am currently working as the Assistant Nursing Director of an ICFMR. Could this lack of accreditation hurt my future chances of employment?

That will all depend on whether or not Bohecker completely loses their accreditation with the OBON. Right now, they have Provisional approval, which means they used to have Full approval, but lost it due to no longer meeting the requirements of the OBON. They only have a certain amount of time in which to fix whatever problems they have been having, and I believe they have passed the one-year mark since they were placed on Provisional status. So, the OBON should be getting ready to evaluate their program again sometime in the near future. It is my understanding, based on what I read on the OBON website, that if a program does not meet the required standards at the time of reevaluation, it will then lose its accreditation all together. I would recommend that you thoroughly research Bohecker's program (including calling the OBON for any information they can give you) before you make any commitment of time or money. (Of course, I would recommend this for any nursing program!)

There has to be a cheaper option!! My ADN will be only $6,000 from a very reputable long-time accredited school and I am able to attend in the evenings and keep my full-time job! The program is 24 months.

I simply do not understand how a school of nursing can even accept students and take money but know that he students might not or will not be able to sit for state boards??!! How on earth is that even legal? What is the purpose of going to school if you are not recognised as a nurse after graduation???

You can sit for the state nursing boards, NCLEX. But you do not graduae from an accredited nursing program.

if they allow you to sit for boards is it simply a matter of employers not recognizing the school you graduated from and wont hire you?
