Bohecker Accreditation

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hi everyone,

I am planning to attend Bohecker College - Cincinnati in December 2009. However, I keep reading post after post on this site indicating that Bohecker has lost their accreditation. I am confused by this. Bohecker offers RETS College's Nursing program, and RETS program is accredited by the Ohio Board of Nursing as well as NLNAC (I just checked both sites, so I know this is current and accurate). It also states in my paperwork from Bohecker that the college has instituational accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Furthermore, "Bohecker College - Cincinnati is accredited to award Occupational Associate's Degrees and Diplomas. Bohecker College - Cincinnati is registered with the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, 35 E. Gay Street, Suite 403, Columbus, Ohio 43215."

I am just wondering where everyone is getting their information about Bohecker. I did a Google search for Bohecker losing accreditation, and this site is the only one that keeps coming up. Are you referring to the school itself losing accreditation, or the Nursing program? As I stated before, the Nursing program is RETS College's program, and it is still fully accredited according to all applicable websites (BON, ABHES, NLNAC, etc). According to the school's website, the school is still accredited. Can anyone show me PROOF to contradict any of this? I am getting ready to spend $20,000 on getting my LPN and do not want it to be wasted. Thank you.

Can be a problem for RN's for hospital employment.

I personally wouldn't go there. No one wants to spend all that money for nothing. Why take the risk? There was a story on the local news here in Columbus about Bohecker a few weeks ago. I guess some students said they paid for something and Bohecker said they were not going to honor it. I don't know what it was exactly, it may have been the nursing exam.

The issue that was on the news here in columbus was about 3 or more students were unable to sit for their NCLEX PN exam. Now, what the students said happened was that bohecker didn't pay for the app fee to the OBON for the exam. When you first enroll to the school, the admin reps tell you that the app fee for the NCLEX exam is included in the tuition, so you don't have to pay out of pocket for the exam. Once Bohecker did pay for the exam, the students received a confirmation number through some company (can't remember their name), but the OBON said the number was NOT valid, so as a result of that, the students were not able to sit for their boards. This news story caused a HUGE argument at my school. Mulitple students were very angry, many said they would hire a lawyer if that problem happened with anyone in my class, and they would file a class action lawsuit. How can you pay 21k for an education and be able to sit for your boards??? It would be a complete waste of money and time.

The ADON came in and talked with us, again, like she does every term, because something always comes up that needs to be addressed. She basically said that the news story was untrue and the students did sit for their boards, which was kind of funny since at the end of the news story, the students did say Bohecker finally fixed the problem and they were scheduled to sit for their boards.

I read a post a little while ago, someone said something about Bohecker changing their name, they did. April 1st Bohecker is now Fortis College. That was also brought up in the discussion with the ADON and like always, she didn't give a decent answer for any question that was asked about the name change. I wouldn't recommend anyone going to the campus in columbus, it's been total hell. The ADON has came into our class EVERY term saying "I understand this class has multiple complaints and we are working on those. We are in the middle of administration/faculty changes" every term it's the same lines and nothing ever gets done. We've lost many clinical sites, we've had faculty changes seems like every month and it's not getting better. Thank god my class is almost done, 4 wks left till graduation!

I graduated from Bohecker/Fortis in Columbus last year and still have yet to find a job. Every potential employer knows the name and will not hire graduates. A girl I know that went back for her RN there had an interview and when she mentioned she went to Bohecker her interview was cut short and she didnt get the job. The report on the news stated that the BON will be back there for a visit in June. The RN's do all their clinicals in nursing homes and have to drive to Akron, OH for their pediatrics clinicals. They say Bohecker "gives" them gas cards but its really being charged to them in their tuition on the back end. They don't get Pell grants anymore so all the cost must be covered by loans or paid out of pocket. Check out their status on the BON website The school has other programs (Surgical Tech, Radiography) that they have had to shut down due to lack of faculty and clinical sites. The fact that both programs are $50,000 a piece don't help either. The admission reps do a good job of selling you on the school, but in reality they don't know what goes on outside of their offices. One admission rep didn't even know what the difference between regionally accredited and nationally accredited meant.

Bohecker/Fortis was a joke! cl1981--message me if you still have not found a job.

yes that place is a joke. this place won't let me send private messages to people but I can receive them *weird*

Keep posting!! I talked to Bohecker for a small bit of time. They refused to disclose their tuition rates, clinical sites, or a schedule of coursework until I was admitted. I then got calls and e-mails daily for months from Bohecker trying to get me to attend. With the long waitlists every where else, any school that feels the need to recruit a student should be avoided.

Their tuition for their LPN program is $22,000 and if you have coursework from another school (columbus state, central ohio technical college) they try to tell you they won't accept those credits. And if they do accept the credits, after you fight with them for an extended amount of time, they don't take the cost off for the credits that you transfer in which means you wont have to take those classes but you still have to pay for them. Their RN program is $24,000. The schedule of coursework will have you going almost everyday for 8 hrs a day, making full-time work impossible. All their clinical sites for the RN program are at nursing homes because hospitals will not let them in. They have to drive out to Akron, OH for their pediatrics clinicals and they get bussed down to Portsmouth, OH for their OB/GYN clinicals (sometimes the bus does'nt show up) the school says they're giving them gas cards to drive to Akron but they're really charging them on the back end for them. The school does not qualify for financial aid anymore (pell grant, ocog, *oig* was discountinued by the state) so all the tuition hast2 be covered by loans. They tell you to go through WIA (workforce initiative act) but WIA tries not to deal w/ Bohecker/Fortis. The financial aid office is overworked w/all the students yelling and complaining about no getting their refunds if at all. Look into other schools and save yourself the trouble.
