Hello,
I have always wanted to be a school nurse. I'm currently an acute care nurse (7 months) and not liking it (I knew I wouldn't, but I had to get experience somewhere). Anyway, I have an offer to interview with a boarding school in NYC next week. Has anyone worked as a school nurse at a boarding school? What was your experience? I'm really excited!
Do you think it's wise for me to leave acute care before I get 1 year's experience? I really want a future in school nursing, public health, or occupational health, and can't imagine returning to a hospital EVER. (Except maybe as a occupational nurse in employee health).
Thanks for any responses!

That certainly sounds interesting! I would imagine that a boarding school would have a nurse on site all the time - so i would think maybe there would be the possibility of nights. I don't really know though. Never worked in one - never went to one.
I say go for the interview! You have a bit of experience under your belt. More is always better, but lord knows that people have come fresh out of nursing school and right into school nursing and have done very well. And you never know unless you put yourself out there. If this is your goal for yourself, why wait?
