Board of Nursing's take on Excelsior or U of Phoenix?

Published

Can anyone tell me whether or not you can attend these schools and get licensed in Florida? I am not sure. I went on the state's website but didn't see anything about these schools. What needs to be done if you do graduate from one of these schools?

University of Phoenix is accepted throughout the US.

Excelsiors programs are not............

The Univesity of Phoenix has ground colleges as well as online programs. If you are interested in earning your 2-year ADN through the Univesity of Phoneix, you can do so through their traditional college campus, however, I do not believe you can earn your 2-year degree online. If you are already an RN and wish to complete your BSN or Masters, you can do this through their online program.

UofP is widely accepted here in FL. But I don't think they have a nursing program that graduates new grads, only an RN to BSN program.

I'm pretty sure Excelsior is too, as I have a coworker in the LPN to RN program. Once you graduate it's the same process as if you graduated from any other school. You apply to take the NCLEX.

Good luck.

My understanding is that Florida will only take LPN's in the Excelsior program.

I will find out in a few months if I have been accepted into a local lpn program. I recently read on another board that U of Phoenix recently added the Lpn to Rn into there other nursing programs.

Have any of you graduated or had friends who graduated from there. If so, was it a good program, is it competitive, and is it limited access?

Thanks so much for all your responses.

The LPN to BSN program that UoP offers is not offered online, rather it is offered at its traditional ground campuses. I am not sure where, as UoP has several different locations. I am sure if you look at the web site, it might provide some additional information.

Florida does only take LPN's who are currently on their registry. I just finished Excelsiors program and am taking boards soon. I had no problems getting my authorization to test here. I called prior to starting the program and they told me I must be an LPN already here in Florida in order to sit for boards.
