Bloomsburg and Cedar Crest nursing students

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I've been accepted to both Bloomsburg University and Cedar Crest College for nursing (from newbie to RN lol). I know there are pro's and cons to both, one big thing for BU is that you are into the RN program from the start (don't have to take classes for two years and then apply for nursing clinicals and such) so you are garunteed (with required grades of course). While Cedar Crest has a brand new nursing building with all the lastest technology and equipment. But it has been so hard to me to decide. I'm just wondering if anyone here is in, or was in, the nursing program at either of the schools and could tell me what you think of it/ any advice. (or if anyone here is starting at Bloomsburg or Cedar Crest in Fall 2008 :) )

Specializes in NICU.

I graduated in 2007 from Cedar Crest. It is a demanding program that will definitely prepare you to pass boards and work as an RN. The good thing about CCC is that they have several "tracks" you can choose from, FT days, PT days, PT nights/weekends- this really helps keep the applicants moving through. When you meet with your advisor and declare yourself a nursing major, they will figure out the time frame you will need to finish pre-reqs and be ready for nursing classes, so essentially you only need to keep your grades up from that point on-you are in the program.

I am not familiar with Bloomsburg's program, but if they mix general studies with nursing classes, that presents a whole different type of challenge. I liked finishing everything prior to clinical stuff, then you can totally focus on what you need to know for nursing. That is plenty, believe me.

Good luck, feel free to pm me with any questions :-)

Specializes in med surg.

I am familiar with the Bloomsburg program although I did not attend it we have had there students for clinicals. We also have quite a few of their grads who work for us.'

I do not know what the Cedar Crest program is at BU you will end up with your BSN.

Like all BSN programs I think that they may need a little more clinical but the nurses do a great job.

I think it is all about what you are prepared to put into the work, all nursing schools are tough.

I would also suggest checking out the pass rates for boards for both schools. I do not know what either of them has as a pass rate.

I am a current Cedar Crest College pre-nursing student so I can not give you an insight on the nursing program (as of now). I can tell you I am very happy with the college so far and they do have a great reputation.

Specializes in Burn, Ortho, Trauma.

I think you should look at total cost for your education when considering the school. Cedar Crest is up to $670/credit plus $250 lab fee per clinical course. Is it worth that much? I haven't decided yet. Bloomsburg is also a top quality nursing school and you don't have to spend nearly that much. Cedar Crest has a very high passing rate on the NCLEX. I don't know the latest number but the previous few classes had 100%.

hey i'm applying to the nursing program for bloomsburg and i live in north carolina i was wondering if you would share like sat scores and gpa and if it was pretty easy to get into bloomsburg i have a 3.5 gpa and i'm top 15% of my class but i'm just really nervous because i'm thinking it is extremely hard to get into

Bloomsburg all the way! Ok, I'll admit, I have no idea how their nursing program is (when I went there I was an Education major, but then transfered out for financial reasons), but speaking purely on the campus and it's surroundings... beautiful. Lol, thats probably not much help at all, but I figured its something. *Shrugs*
