Nurses General Nursing

Hello All...

This is my first post on here and I'm desperately looking for advice. I have been a nurse for 3 years now a CNA before that. I have worked mainly I'm LTC care. I recently worked a desk job at a home care agency for a year and a half. I grew bored of it and decided I wanted to go back into active nursing. At 31 I face the challenge of having family and stage one chronic kidney disease. Before I made the step to my new job I spoke to my nephrologist about it and he said I'd be fine. So I accepted a first shift full time job in a LTC facility. I am beginning to wonder if I made a big mistake! I have 30 patients to manage. I am good with my time but I always end up staying an hour or so everyday to finish up. I am severely annoyed because my facility purposely doesn't staff well n they're constantly asking me to work double shifts. I politely decline but then I'm made to feel guilty. I care about my patients but I noticed I'm starting to have daily pain, edema in my fingers, legs n orbitals. I am beyond exhausted when I get home and my urine looks like tea. Did I take on to much? Can I physically handle this or is it an adjustment period? Any tips for me? Please help!!

Those symptoms need to be reported to your nephrologist but I'm healthy and I couldn't do it.

If you have nursing experience, why not home health?

Specializes in Emergency Department, ICU.

Are you wearing compression stockings? Are you drinking enough water on work days?
