Birthing gowns

LDRP nurses: what's your opinion on birthing gowns? They've been popping up on all the mommy blogs, but I wonder how practical they actually are. What are your thoughts on birthing gowns versus johnnies during labor and delivery- both from a nurse and from a patient point of view?

I have always thought birth is a disease, so why treat it as such..? No need for a hospital gown specifically. I saw the birthing gowns when I was having babies and considered getting one, but in the end I decided to wear my own clothing because I just wanted to feel "normal." I know not everyone would agree with this thought, but wearing a hospital gown can cause some people to feel more vulnerable - during a time when you already feel pretty vulnerable. To each her own of course!
