BIOPATCH

Published

We used to applied BIOPATCH on Central Line dressing and Change transparent dressings at least every seven days and PRN for infection prevention. After months of using it was discovered that it was not that effective, therefore it was discontinued.

Is there anyone who works in a hospital setting who is currently using a effective product?

We have never needed a script for a bio patch, it's a standard part of our central line dressing change protocol.

I haven't actually seen a Biopatch in use for years; I don't think we even stock them any more. We have a HUGE number of really fresh grads working on our unit and they've been oriented by the previous most recent fresh grads so they probably don't know they exist. Having said that, we were actively discouraged from using them due to cost, with the rationale being that we use antibiotic-impregnated lines so we don't "need" a Biopatch.
