It is a prerequisite at my school for take Bio 111 before being able to take A&P. I was very lucky because my teacher, who normally teaches the A&P classes, came back to teach bio since she did not like what her students came to class knowing. Just from flipping through my A&P book, I can see a lot of thing repeated from the Bio class.

Yes, bio was a requirement for my microbio and physiology classes. I do think it came in handy in learning about molecular processes you'll see time and time again.

was just curious didnt want to be wasting my time if wasnt helpful..if it will help me in other classes then ok with it....it wasnt required but highly suggested by advisor..i coulldnt do a&p till summer anyway so went ahead and took i start friday..thanks for replies

Some schools require a general Bio class, some do not. Mine, did not. I went straight in to A&P and then Micro. I can see how a general Bio class would be helpful, but honestly in my opinion, a waste of time and money. As long as you learn something from it, it should be beneficial to you in your future science classes.

it wasn't a requirement for my school here in East TN, but it was strongly suggested. As an older student without much time to waste on classes I don't need to take, I chose not to take it. I took one of the hardest instructors that offered classes, as I had heard she was very fair and thorough. I passed both I and II with A's. Granted, I tanked the first exam with flying colors (on chemistry, a very weak subject for me), but I didn't pull anything less than an A for all the remainder regular exams. I pulled an 88 on the final, which was over the entire semester's work. If you feel you need the biology class, take it. If you feel you can do it without it, then go for it. Only you know what you can handle. But let me squelch a myth going around about APII being easier, it wasn't. You needed to remember all that you learned from API and apply it, along with all the info you learned in APII.

and as a side note, Micro was a blast! I loved that class.

It wasn't required but I took it. You don't know what you're missing if you don't take it because the understanding will only go so far. So people never realize what they're missing. I recommend taking it but it won't shatter your world if you don't; just a deeper understanding of the processes. Good luck

On the first day of Microbiology, we were expected to know how to use a microscope. I hadn't used a microscope in many years and taking Biology not only helped lay the foundation for Microbiology but also helped me get used to using a microscope. My school requires Bio as a pre-req for Micro, AP1&2 and nutrition. I thought it was valuable to take.

Also, as I thought about it, Bio will really help you with the nutrition class. It will introduce you to the Krebs cycle and all the steps associated with cellular respiration, which I am pretty sure will flow over into A&P as well. I had fun in bio. Good luck!
