BIO 156 really needed to pass BIO 201??

Hi everyone,

I'm in need of some help from people who have taken and passed BIO 201...

I took and passed one year of biology in high school so I can actually skip BIO 156 and take BIO 201 but the school counselor isn't advising it.

Has anyone here taken BIO 201 and passed without taking BIO 156?

If so... what was your final grade? Did you feel that you wouldn't have passed had you not taken BIO 156? What should I specifically learn prior to starting BIO 201?

What should I focus on the most while in BIO 201?

I go to a Maricopa Comm. College but I'll kindly accept help from anyone who has taken these classes.

THANK YOU ALL

Hi there! I see that you are attending MCC...same here. Hoping to get into the ASU/NAU (either one) BSN program. Anyway, I don't know how old you are or how long it's been since you attended your high school biology class, but I really think that it's smart to take BIO156 either way. BIO201 has a lot of information and if you don't have a clear understanding of cell structure and function, it could make things a lot harder for you. Do you remember all of the structures inside a cell and how they work? Do you know how cell respiration works? Genetics? DNA replication? I could go on and on. Although they will have a VERY brief overview of some of this in the first week of BIO201, it is really assumed that you already know this. So if you're already trying to catch up at that point, you might be in trouble.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Brookelin! I'm also trying to get into the ASU/NAU BSN program. Its been 6 years since my biology class and I can tell you that I have forgotten almost everything I learned. I really appreciate your advice to consider taking BIO 156.

I've signed up to take BIO 156 for Summer II. Anyone know of any good Intro to Biology (BIO156) books to read or websites to check out prior to taking the course?

Any other advice on taking BIO 201 without taking BIO 156 first?
