Bio Lab?

Published

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences in their first biology lab class (like what kind of labs did you do, how hard was it, etc). My academic adviser said it's a pretty tough class to take your first semester so I recently started freaking out about it lol. He told me that like a month ago... leave it to me to get nervous RIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS! Lol. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

regular bio or a&p 1?

In my personal experience, labs were not very hard as long as you listenened to the directions...this is just a general bio class, right?

The first class, if I remember correctly, we didn't even do a lab (and if we did, it was very easy). We had to go over some things and sign a sheet/turn it in and he basically just went over things in the classroom. But generally, I think they normally start out easy. (Sorry, I took this back in 2004)

Did you get your lab book? What I would do is flip through that and see what it has in it...also, if you know who the instructor is, you may want to call the department, tell the person what class your in (section numer and everything) and in most cases, I was able to get the syllabus ahead of time so I knew what I was in for!! I would definitely do that - it will give you your entire semester all in one!

Good luck in your first semester...Bio was in my second semester, only after Math & Speech, so I have to disagree...I think you'll be fine if it's just the basic bio (mine was a pre-req).

I took bio my first semester too, and I think it depends on your instructor. The first time I took it I had a horrible professor. She showed powerpoints and that was it. She would say this is going to be on the test, and it wouldn't. In addition, she would say "don't worry about this", and it would be on the test. The book was gigantic and we were responsible for all of it. Our lab was thought by a different professor and he seemed to hold us responsible in lab for things the lecture professor never went over. And we were tested in lecture for things the lab professor never went over. When I dropped there were 7 people left out of 80.

I retook it the next semester with a good professor who taught both the lecture and the lab and it was a little difficult being my first science, but not horrible. I remember thinking it was hard at the time, but after taking micro, A&P1 and 2 its not so bad. Pay close attention you will see the material again and again and again lol.

I took it my first semester and though it was rather easy....just pay attention to the instructo and follow their directions very carefully. The class however was a different story. I had a terrible instructor who couldn't teach if her life depended on it. All worked out though and I got an A by taking it in to my own hands and studying everything. Best of luck!
