I absolutely can not stand lugging all of my work with me everywhere. Even when I was in high school I used to stop at my locker after each class and pick up my 1 book. LOL. In nursing school, I use a separate binder-1 inch binders and a notebook for each class-70page notebook. I bought this 2 inch binder so that I can put the previous test's outlines in. I keep this 2 inch binder in my room and don't even look at it until midterm. I put the outlines that I printed from the internet in my binder (my teacher's post the outlines on the net). These outlines of course consist of current material that I would be working on. I use the notebook to write my notes in (some of my teachers don't post the outlines on the net). Then I transfer all of the notes from my notebook onto index cards. Transferring the notes helps me because it separates all the disorders and diseases, signs 'n symptoms, etc., but that's besides the point. So got any more questions, I'll be happy to help ya!
I used a different binder for each class and put every handout in document protectors. I don't treat my binders well, and the document protectors kept the papers from ripping out of the rings if I was too rough with it. I also got a set of dividers for each binder and had separate tabs for notes, handouts, assignments, etc. that way I wouldn't have to wonder where the heck I put my papers. I also had a friend that didn't like to carry her book with her so she took it and had the binding removed and just brought the chapters being covered in lecture with her. I thought that was really neat, but you probably couldn't resell your books if you did that.
Hi. I'm starting my nursing degree in the fall (WOOHOO!!:) and I'm trying to get all my supplies ready early. I'd like to start out organized so hopefully I can stay that wayI'm wondering, should I get a separate binder for each class? and if so, what sizes? Spiral note books for each for my own notes from the text?
Any suggestions of other important supplies I'll need would be appreciated (even though I know there are many other threads on this topic) but I'm most interested in how you organize your class notes and handout/test etc.
Thanks so much!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one starting nursing school this fall that has organizational/supply questions!
I don't know what specific books your school requires, but checkout this website www.unboundmedicine.com & see if any of the books you need are available for download to your phone (iphone, palm, blackberry, etc). I know a lot of students are using this program during clinicals instead of lugging around a bunch of books.
CONGRATULATIONS!
i will be starting my 3rd semester in the fall!
what i have is...one 3 inch bind and one 1 inch binder... and what ever we are going over will go
in the 1inch binder until the test...and after the test i put everything that was in test 1 in the 3 inch binder
and so on test 2 test 3 ect... then when the final comes everything is already section out by test..
and that is how i study for the final... i hope this helps!

determined 2succeed - thanks so much for that link! i never thought of downloading books. good luck for the fall!
do you guys just take notes in class and then go over them at home or do you go home and take notes from your text book? (can you tell i've been out of school for a few years? )
your welcome...this is what i do...i record the lectures, write down in class and then i go home and listen to the lectures again and rewrite because i might have missed something that was said in class...its alot of writing though and then if i need further understanding i read over it in the books..
