I think your scores are actually quite good :) Those are solid numbers all the way around. Your academic aptitude score is really good especially. I talked to someone in one of my classes today about his scores (he was at the same testing as I was, sitting right in front of me, in fact) and he didn't make the 65th percentile required. So don't feel badly. Test scores are by no means a be-all, end-all.
I'm planning on applying to St Margaret, Shadyside and CCAC. I'd really love to go to UPMC, either one; Shadyside is closer to my house, though, so it would be more convenient for me.
Heads up: If you want to apply to CCAC for spring 2011, the deadline is the end of this month to apply. I'm getting my application together now- mainly just waiting on my official grades from my CCAC summer classes. The big problem for me right now is that the admissions officer at Shadyside told me the application deadline for Spring is going to be Dec 15, which could present timing conflicts because if I'm accepted to CCAC, I will have to have made a decision whether or not to attend CCAC before the I will have even found it if I was accept to Shadyside! What am I to do? IDK. I could gamble and hope I'm accept to Shadyside by turning down CCAC, or I could just take what I can get and go to CCAC and then run the risk of missing out on Shadyside. And then throw into the equation StMarg and it all becomes more complex.
Yes, I want to start nursing school in the Spring. Was thinking the March start date for Shadyside. I think St. Margaret starts in Feb. And CCAC starts in Jan. My only concern with St Marg is that they have a low completion rate, and I don't know exactly why that is.
Keep in touch! I hope everything goes great for you!
I meant to congratulate you on your very high Reading, Verbal and Non-Verbal scores too! Those are GREAT scores.
And yeah, hopefull Feb admission date. One nice thing is that St Marg's program is only 76 weeks, instead of two full years!

Thanks for the compliments!
I have to be 80 percentile in everything for Shadyside so I guess I am not going to be applying there. I don't have time to take that remedial class on top of working full-time and A&P II this fall. Hmm...I printed out their catalog two months ago and it says the same as St. Mag's about being in the 65th to apply but their web site states 80th in everything. UGH! I think it is crazy how these two school are pretty much the same but so different. I am good enough for St. Margarets but not Shadyside. :chair:
It's frustrating when a test like this is going to hold me back but I guess A's and a couple B's in all of the pre-req's. I am so frustrated.

Yes I have been worried about that situation happening to me. I am afraid of hearing from one place before the other. That is a tough call. You have great PSB scores so I am sure your GPA is outstanding as well, so you shouldn't have a problem getting in anywhere, but then again, it is so competitive. I would most definitely prefer St. Mag's over BC3. I might apply to Citizens; I have never heard anything about that school. I will have to do a search on here so see if anything comes up. Then I have to take the TEAS exam!! HAHAHA!! Dear lord, what a process!!! :)
Yeah, I've been taking the prerequisites/corequisites since January. I have a 4.0 with 18 credits completed and I'm taking 14 credits this fall. But I dropped out of college years ago, so my record is not perfect.
Shadyside I hear is really pulling back the amount they cover with the tuition forgiveness program. I hear that this year students have to cover $10,000 and there is talk about them rolling it back so that students may have to cover as much as $15000 for those starting next year! If so, the whole tuition "forgiveness" concept is really starting to lose its appeal. One can attend CCAC and get an Associates for only a few thousand dollars, without a contract.
So really, at this point, I'm really lost and confused as to what I'm going to do.
I REALLY have had my heart set on UPMC. As much as I love CCAC, my bio and API classes there have been so disorganized, and the labs so unequipped, that it really makes me hesitant to enroll for nursing at CCAC. Add on top of that the fact that if you graduate from UPMC, you can complete a bachelors in only about 8 months of online classes because of a special agreement they have worked out with Chatham.
What to do? What to do? I dunno. lol
JASON IN PA-did you get your St. Mags application sent in yet?
No, did you? I haven't even started it yet. I keep thinking there is still plenty of time, since the next class starts in Feb, right? Do you think I should get on the ball and get it done? Or do you think I have time? Yikes! Now that you asked me that it's kind of got me worried.
I don't know how it works: do they collect the applications and then decide at once, or do they just decide yes or no as they come in?

I have everything done. I have my application filled out, essay typed and printed, copy of PSB results, and one reference. I am waiting for my transcripts and my last reference from my A&P Professor. I am not sure how they do it, since it's a rolling admission, I would think they would review them as they come in. I am not for sure on that one though. I would email Carol but I have already emailed that poor lady a couple times before I took the PSB for just general questions, I don't want to keep bothering her.
I am going to send mine in as soon as I get my transcripts. Obtaining your transcripts is the worse part, I think...UGH!!! I should have mine in the email no later than the week after next. A&P II starts on the 24th and I will just give my professor the reference form then. I have been in contact with him and he said he would be glad to fill it out for me. I am applying for June, not Feb. I know it's early but accepted or not, I will need to make adjustments in my life, either applying elsewhere if I am not accepted or starting to figure out monetary funds if I am accepted as I will have to quit my full-time job. I am a planner so like to "try" to have things figured out!!
Keep me updated on your application process! (your a smarty, so I know you should have no problem getting in)!! :)

im new here. i live in PA (philadelphia) but not familar with these schools, are these out west?
No, Pittsburgh.
Hi again!
The more I've thought about it, the more I have my heart set on St. Marg for Feb admission! It's really just perfect all the way around: it is shorter in length (76 weeks!), fairly close to where I live, the tuition forgiveness covers most tuition expense, the program is associated with UPMC and is respected, the facilities are pretty nice imo, and they have the awesome agreeement with Chatham which makes obtaining the Bachelors a pretty fast process for their grads. What's not to love?
I'm glad for you that you've been on the ball. I really hate doing references....I hate asking others to do things for me in general. It's kind of like handing a sheet to someone and asking, "will you please brag about me?" Haha.
I'm going to start my essay this week and call back down to my high school and ask them to send ANOTHER transcript up, get my CCAC transcript tomorrow, and then figure out whom I want to ask to brag about me lol.
I've set a goal to get this down by mid Sept. I would hate to apply too late and miss Feb admission because it's filled.
Best wishes with everything! I know you are going to do well!
