Does anyone know the best way to obtain the TN visa? i understand CGFNS webpage has a visascreen form. how long does it usually take to give you an answer?
does the TN visa restrict you to work in a certain state ie if you apply for new york CGFNS verification and visa screen together, does it mean the TN visa can only be used for employment in ny state?
your input would be greatly appreciated!!!
sincerely

Trust you? If you can tell me how you are allowed to legally work as a nurse in California without taking the NCLEX? Very fishy sounding to me. I would love to know what hospital in San Diego is hiring you without it.
I can't help with the TN, cause I had citizenship.

I received my TN at the port of entry (three times). You need several documents, such as proof of qualification, and a letter from your prospective employer outlining your job with certain specifics (name of employer, name of position, place of work, salary, term of employment, because it's a temp visa, etc...). You are limited to working in the state given as your place of work (technically, although I worked everywhere and gave my office as my place of work). Go to http://www.grasmick.com and fish for more information.

For any nurse wanting to work in the US, TN or green card for visa, you are now required to complete the Visa Screen process offered via CGFNS. Their website is http://www.CGFNS.org and you can download the forms for there. This is in addition to the verification thast is required separately for New York. You are sponsored to work in one state with the TN visa. If you want to move somewhere else, you will need to apply to that BON for licensure and have the hospital sponsor you in the new city for your TN Visa.
Hope that this helps. :balloons:

Hey Suzanne4,
How does it work if you already have done your NCLEX exams and are licensed. I have a license for NY state and I worked there for 2 years in 1999 TO 2001.
Do you still need to do the CGFN's in order to apply for the green card or is there a different route you need to take.
I'm just qurious I guess. Thanks in advance for the info.

You do not need to take the CGFNS if you have already taken NCLEX. You will have to go through the Visa Screen process to get your certificate before you can be granted a TN Visa. I notice that you are from the UK, if you are a citizen of there then you do not qualify for a TN Visa. They are only open for citizens of Mexico and Canada because of the NAFTA treaty. Are you a Canadian citizen or a just a resident? Permanent residency status in Canada doesn't cover you under the NAFTA treaty, only citizenship.......
Green card applicants also need to complete the Visa Screen process. Remember that this will need to be resubmitted every 5 years...............
Hope that this helps.......................
