I've applied to sooooo many positions, I'm finally starting to get emails/call backs but I don't want to sound like I'm desperate and applied for a trillion jobs...yet, that's exactly what I've done :)
Is it appropriate to ask which position is this call back for? or how is the best way to ask this question?
TIA!

For HR personnel, I wouldn't worry about it. They know how many applications you have put in, they can pull it up. The nurse recruiter sent all 6 of my last batch of applications to the nurse managers at the same time. They really don't care, they know the market and know new grads aren't picky (generally).
Every call that I have received, the person has stated "This is ____, the nurse manager on ____ at ____ hospital." I even had one tell me that I didn't apply for her unit, she pulled my application from a different unit. She asked me if I was wanting ortho specifically and I was honest with her and said that I was just trying to get my foot in the door in med-surg wherever I could. If the hospital hadn't implemented a hiring freeze that week, I would have been hired.
Good luck!!

I always keep notes (contacts name, where they're from, email addy, phone #, and what I was talking to them last about)
Keep it at my phone by my computer so I can act like I have a clue who I'm talking to when I answer the phone. Makes me feel smarter when someone can call up out of the blue and I know who they are and likely what they want.

Say, "I just want to confirm; which position is this in reference to?"
Sometimes the best question is the direct one.
IMO, they shouldn't be offended...if anything, they want to make sure they're talking to the right person about the right position. And I'm pretty sure HR knows that as a new grad you've applied anywhere and everywhere :)
