I am a senior nursing student working at a mid-sized teaching hospital in Ohio. As I search for jobs, I'm a little surprised to hear many of our nurses and docs encouraging me to seek employment elsewhere. Multiple people have told me I need to get my first job at a bigger, more renowned teaching facility where I'll get the best experience and get the best training. Several of our docs have suggested Children's of Michigan but unfortunately I missed their residency deadline (Nov 17!!!! ugh!).
Honestly I'm a little disheartened but I also want to work somewhere I'll have the best learning opportunities. That said, can anyone suggest a facility that is especially new grad friendly (definitely prefer peds)? Location is not an issue as I am willing to relocate.
Look in to Shriner's hospitals - there are 22 around the US
If you want to be nice and warm :), All Childrens in St Pete, St Joes Children's hospital and Tampa General peds unit in Tampa are all excellent. Also Florida hospital for children in Orlando, and Wolfston Children's in Jacksonville, and Joe DiMaggio in Hollywood, FL are all excellent hospitals. I used to work at facilities that got many referals from TGH, St Joes and ACH. If you want to go to DC (I hated it there but to each their own) Look at CNMC and HSC, and in Baltimore UMMC, Hopkins, KKI, and Mt Washington Ped hospital
Good luck to you!

It speaks poorly to their job satisfaction. Kinda sucks that a facility with a goal of teaching new healthcare providers would have an environment that's apparently not a good learning environment.
