Which would you prefer? All three options involve rotating weekends. One child in daycare, one in elementary school. Daycare covers all of spouse's working hours. Spouse has flexibility to help with drop-off and pick-up as needed.

I was a single mom with small children, though fortunately I had a housemate who would get my kids to daycare if I had to be at work at 0630. She was a restaurant manager, so I would pick up her kid at his daycare when she was at work from 1400-2200.
Eight-hour shift all the way, whichever one works better for you. Twelves wipe you out and don't leave enough of you for parenting. It's also safer for practice-- error rates rise with work >8hours, and really rise after 12.
