Best Psyche facilities in Chicago for RN's?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello everyone,

I recently received my RN license in Illinois, by endorsement from Indiana. I am hoping to move by late April, or early May to Chicago as it's a great city. I have 1 1/2 years of experience in Psyche, and really like the field.

I'm wondering if anyone could give some advice on who the best hospitals to work for in Chicago are? I'm not ONLY talking about who has the best pay, benefits, etc...but I'm also wondering who is the best to work for OVERALL?

The reason I'm asking is because I am not in any hurry, and have work for a great facility right now. My first job right out of school was a nightmare, and was completely under-staffed...with R.N. staffing sometimes falling in the ratio of 15:1, as they would count Techs as a nurse. I never had ANY time to talk to the patients, and was rushing to fill out paperwork all day long (yes, on paper). I was lucky to get few minutes to scarf my food down!

The facility I work for now is the exact opposite. They are a really large facility, the pay is great, good management, and they are strict with the patient to nurse ratios, keeping it maximum 6:1, and plenty of MHT's.

I've heard that Hartgrove is one of the best in Chicago, so I was going to start there first. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hartgrove has a nice newer free standing facility, part of a larger for profit corporation, but I've never known anyone who works there.

Psych beds have slowly decreased in Illinois over the years.

A few suggestions, in alphabetical order:

Alexian Brothers

Christ, Advocate

Illinois Masonic, Advocate

Rush

Thanks for the advice, I will definately check these out!
