Best PCT Units?

I am looking for a PCT job at hospitals in the St. Petersburg, FL area for experience and a chance at a job previous to nursing school. I am wondering if anyone has any input on the better units to work in. I had a phone interview with Bayfront and she mentioned PCU & Telemetry, any input? I'm not against cleaning up crap & such, that's part of the job, but I figured I'd see who thinks their unit is the best to work in, any opinions help. I also want a unit that allows for well rounded experience, that which would be useful as a new graduate in a few years when I need an RN job. Thanks in advance :nurse:

I would try to get in an ICU, specifically one in a trauma center. Some hospitals require ED or Critical Care experience but others dont.

When I started as a PCT I worked Med/surg and HATED it. It was boring and the RN's treated the techs like incompetent fools....

Now I work ICU and love it. You learn soooo much and if your good at your job and willing to learn and help the RN's will notice and it will help once clinical's start.....

aim for critical care!! even if you dont want to be a critical care nurse.... it's still a valuable learning experience for nursing school.

Hello there!

I'm actually a sitter at Bayfront, and im also starting Galen PN program next month. My prefrence is 5s(Trauma) at Bayfront. I float to diffrent floors, but 5s is by far the best to me. All the nurses there are friendly, and willing to help with anything. I also see A LOT! And this will help me when I start nursing school! Plus i'm hoping to do some clinicals there so this will put me ahead a little bit! However, my ultimate goal after graduation is babies;) So I really want to work L&D, Mother Baby, or Pediatrics! But out of your choices given, I do like working PCU(kinda boring though), havent worked tele too much.
