Nothing Comes EasyRN

Im a new nurse still looking for a job in MA, not very easy! and I have been told YOU NEED to get a Med Surge job as your first...but right now I have searched and none around here. I have always been really interested in psych and there is job opening for that would that be a bad thing to start as a new nurse as a psych nurse? Does it all really matter? ER sounds really good too but Im so scared as a new nurse to apply for that.
My other question is what is the BEST Nursing magazine for a new nursing grad???
ThanX a Bunch!

Hello NCERN:
Well it would seem to me that as a Psych Nurse, your patient who comes to you or is admitted with a psych crisis may also be a patient with pre-existing health issues like DM, seizure disorder, s/p MI or some type of surgery. What I am trying to say is you will be using all your skills as a nurse. I say GO FOR IT.
Now for your other question related to nursing magazines:
www.nurse.com/ this is where you would find Nursing Spectrum Magazine
www.nursing.advanceweb.com/ sign up for free subscription
www.nursingcenter.com/ on-line nursing journals
www.nursezone.com
You might also want to check out AJN, Nursing2009 as examples.
Good Luck!

I am also a new graduate nurse and I have made the decision to accept a position in Mother/baby- so I do not think you need to go to med/surg first! If psych is what you are interested in - go for it!!

For a nurse in MA you can check out ADVANCE magazine. They have job listings there too.
