I bought Lippincott, Saunders, Kaplan, and two others that I can't remember the name of. They all helped. The Saunders had everything sectioned out and I used it to study what we were studying in class at that time.
I don't know which is the best, I used them all. I did 50-100 test questions everyday, rotating the CDs that came with the books. I passed NCLEX-RN the first time with 75 questions. I loaned my books to a friend of mine after I passed and haven't seen them since. When she took her NCLEX-RN, she failed the first time with 265 and passed the second time with 265 questions.
GOOD LUCK, study smart and hang in there!
I bought the Saunders. It's seems pretty good, and it is highly reccommended on this forum! It comes with a CD that has practice questions.
I've looked at getting Prentice Hall's Review and Rationales NCLEX-RN review. It is a little cheaper than the Saunder's. I've purchased a few of books from this series for other subjects, and they seem to be pretty good so far. If anyone has used the NCLEX revew from this series I'd love some feedback! My only concern is that this review may be simply a compilation of the information found in the topical review books.... Maybe I'll have time during spring break to investigate a little....! ;-)
I used Mosbys/Kaplans/Saunders and my all time favorite Davis!!!!. It was not as much the books that i used, but the disks that came with.
The Davis disk can be downloaded once on your computer and you never need to install the disk again, so I could download it on my computer at work and could Nclex questions when I found free time. I downloaded it at my husbands shop on his computer so when I was out there I could do some questions. And you can target the disk to do mini test anywhere from 5questions to 2000 questions if you choose. You can use a "hint" button to give you additional tutoring if you want, and you can either see the correct answere right away, or wait till the test is done and see your score.
At my school we had to turn in Nclex journals where we had to have X amount of questions done at 85% or better for a score. with one set being 265 questions in 1 sitting, with a score of 85%. do you know how frustrating it is to sit down to do 265 questions and get an 80%? It didnt count and took a TON of time, with the Davis "hint" button, that wouldst happen.
I swear Davis is what helped me pass my boards, I did thousands and thousands of Davis questions, and when I sat down to take my state boards, I literally felt like I was at home taking a Davis test.
Do you think I sold you on the Davis disk???? Maybe I should work for them I love them so much!!!!
Best of luck....
PS----before you buy anything from the book store, check out Half.com you can get all of the above books for a fraction of the price, then when your done sell them there.
Just seeing if anyone has any suggestions and see which books they thought were best in helping prepare. NCLEX is awhile away for me (little more than a year) but I figure it's never too early to start, right?
Kaplan. Hands down. The NCLEX isn't about regurgitating a huge amount of information. It's about prioritizing care and knowing which right answer is the *most* right of those offered.
Get the book and CD, do the practice tests, and learn to understand the prioritization process. Learn the rationales. You can do this.
I passed on the first try in
Best wishes to you!
I went to kaplan for 3 months then right now im reading saunders and other hand outs, i want to buy other books like lippincot but i havent finished reviewing SAUNDERS & CRAM. Honestly IM CONFUSED! It seems im not learning anything

Studying too many books will just get you more confused. Consentrate on taking questions and making sure you understand the rationale to the questions especially the ones you get wrong
Welcome and good luck
I understand the way you feel. I am in my last semester of school and I am shopping for NCLEX REVIEW books, and I have a SAUNDERS (which came highly recommended), a lippincotts, and an NCLEX CRAM; also for my school we use the HESI book. Hopefully we can get some more insight into the bestbooks to use. Somewhere, I also use for reviews is Amazon, and read the reviews on the books.
