Best Mattress for Heavy Soon-2-B Nurse?

Published

I need some advice here! My husband and I just bought a Temperpedic Mattress and are experiencing lower back pain from it! I have a BMI of 40 (yes I know I am very un-healthy but I am working on it!) and my husband is only 130 lbs! Needless to say we are having some issues here! lol!

There is not much research out there regarding what is the best type of bed for 2 people with such different weights! We had a "normal" bed up to about 2 weeks ago - but it had to get thrown out because my massive weight basically killed it!

I need some nurses advice here! I am not sleeping well and it is effecting my school performance! What are you sleeping on? Good? Bad? I need some feedback! Thank you!!! :) You all basically rock!

My nightshift preceptor is a bit fluffy with bad knees. (I like the word fluff when talking about anything less than a true, 400 lb+ bariatric patient.) Anyhow she had a support mattress, forget what kind, think sealy-serta, what have you... and she put a tempurpedic style topper on top of that, and on top of those two she stuck a down topper. She said it was heavenly- supportive but comfortable, and her aches and pains were much less than with her mattress alone. They do make sheets deep enough nowadays to cover all that.

I bought a down topper for our mattress when it was seven years old, and I really like it. My hubby and I are in the slightly over average weight zone so I thought something light would help both of us; it will probably get us to ten years with this very generic sealy mattress. We just take the topper and shake it, then flip it, once every few months.
