Here are my top 3 list:

1) hospital of special surgery (in-patient or m/s)

2) Children's hospital of New York - Presbyterian (PICU or OB)

3) Lenox Hill - ICU

they have the best orientation program (i heard ....)

what's yours?

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I brought this back to the top because I wanted more feedback on NYC Hospitals. Can anyone else add to this list or expand on what was previously posted? Which hospitals have the best orientation/preceptorships? What about residency/internships for new RNs? Thanx!

I've done one rotation at Mercy Med Center in Rockville Centre and found it to be nice conditions and a great atmosphere for employees, the only thing I noticed is that everyone is over 40 years of age and have been working there forever. They also are a little low on the starting pay scale. I've done a rotation at Glen Cove Hosital which is part of the North Shore System. It was a great place to work, the nurses were young and friendly with the starting salary around 60k. Right now when someone asks me where I want to work I reply Lenox Hill. My father had a hip replacement there and he got 4 star care from 4 star nurses in an absolute gorgeous hospital. His primary nurse informed me starting salary there ranges from 55-65k. These are really the only hospitals I've had experience with. Hope that helps a little

Can anyone tell me about experiences with orientation/preceptor programs at Long Island hospitals? How about pharmacology exams too? Thanks

Bellevue trains you for 5-6 months before they let you touch a patient. i went there with experience, and still learned a lot.

how is it like to work in bellevue, esp. in E.D.? aside that you were trained for 5-6 months. just asking because i always love E.D. and my relative used to work there.

Bellevues ER cant be put into words. with the training and experience you get there, you can work ANYWHERE. get me on aim and ill tell you about it.

In response to someone's question about working at Bellevue, I am completing my adult health clinical in the ICU/CCU right now for NYU nursing school. The facilities on the ICU floor (floor 10) are very modern and clean. There are nurses' stations right outside of every 3rd patient's room and med rooms behind every nurses' station. The patients' rooms all have nice views. So far the nursing staff has been positive, accommodating and competent. I had clinical on a med surge floor at Bellevue for the first half of the term (15th floor) and I would say about the opposite for everything about that experience. I guess it really does matter which unit you work on.

I have an interview with the Bellevue ER Nurse Manager on Wed ... I'm so nervous! But so excited.

I wanted to ask if anyone knew the starting pay rate for a new ASN graduate?

Specializes in post surgical, tele, icu.

Has anyone had experience in NYP's ICUs?
