I tried posting this in the NJ nurses forum with no response, so I thought I would re-post in general nursing discussion. Any feedback is appreciated!!

I recently moved from NYC to Bergen County and kept my job in NYC with the hopes that the commute wouldn't be too bad. Well, the commute has been getting to me lately and I am looking to apply to hospitals in Bergen County in a few months. NYC offers a high salary so I am hoping to match it as closely as possible at a NJ hospital. So far I have looked into Hackensack Medical Center, Valley Hospital and Holy Name Hospital. I only know that the salary is Hackensack is pretty competitive but I don't know about the other hospitals.

Any recommendations? Any places I should avoid? I expect the salary to be lower but I don't want a huge decrease in income. Thanks for any tips and advice!!

Hackensack is a huge teaching hospital whereas Holy Name and Valley are smaller community hospitals. What type of nursing are you looking to do? If you're interested in ER Hackensack is a trauma center.

Hackensack is the big hitter salary wise. I know a few nurses who have worked there, mixed reviews. Holy Name is a little more of a community feel, and i believe not teaching, so the flow is different.

I am currently in the process of endorsing my FL RN license to the state of NJ. I wanna move there soon but I dont know anybody in the field or anything about the hospitals. I have heard many great things about Hackensack form nursing recruiters but nothing like a first hand opinion from a nurse. My plan is to start with a travel nursing agency until I find a good hospital to stay. I have two years of ICU experience and I would like to stay in the same area. Please give me some feedback about the hospitals, any kind of information about being a nurse in NJ is welcome, I am really concerned about this transition and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
