i found this web site tonight while surfing the web. you might find it helpful.
http://www.meddean.luc.edu/lumen/meded/medicine/pulmonar/pd/contents.htm - the physical exam - this site is set up for medical students, but nursing students can learn from it as well. this link takes you to a page of links to the various parts of the body to be examined. when you link into a body part you will find an explanation of the method to examine that site and what is normal, a button at the bottom labeled "abnormal" will bring up information about abnormal findings during examination of that site. there are lots of links in the text that bring up very nice photographs of some of the abnormal conditions. you can manipulate the left and right side of the windows to make them larger or smaller because some of the photos are larger than others and you'll want to see the whole picture. the "knowledge" button gives you a little outline breakdown of the pathophysiology going on. a fourth button, "self eval" is a list of test questions--remember these are designed for medical students, so don't feel badly if you miss a few. this is from loyola university medical school.
My class used Health and Physical Assessment by Barkauskas and I thought it was a pretty good book. I don't have anything to compare it to, though.
I also have the Bate's Pocket Guide to Physical Exam and History Taking. This book has been a lifesaver to me in clinicals and for studying on the go.
