Best area for year round work?

South Florida has a lot of ads for nurses in hospitals, including OR's. However, most hospitals require an RN. As for hurricanes, all areas get hit sometime. I feel the beautiful year round weather, cultural events, restaurants, etc.. more than make up for it. I suggest you go online, look up newspaper ads such as the Sun Sentinal, Palm Beach Post, etc. and see what's out there. Good Luck.

I am considering relocating to Florida, I am currently working on a Med/Surg Oncology floor but I really want to get into the OR. I have heard that some areas in Florida is more seasonal work, we like the Orlando area. What areas would be best for work and that has less chances for hurricane weather.

Jacksonville is not a tourist area so the work would not be seasonal, although it is probably lower paying than South Florida. The cost of living is lower than South Florida and we have not had a direct hit from a hurricane in 45 years (knock on wood)! In 2004 we did have a few tropical storms that were pretty bad but that is the worst of it.

thanks for the input, I am an RN with a few years experience. Husband works in the casino's and is looking at Tampa and Daytona area any thoughts?

Honestly, it's as bad here in FL as it is everywhere else as far as trying to find a job. The cost of living isn't cheap and the wages are *low*! The "no state income tax" thing doesn't really make up for it. There is no place "safe" from hurricanes, although the coastal areas are obviously a little worse off when we're hit. Good luck!

We recently moved back to beautiful Florida from Maryland. Originally we were in Ft. Myers, but chose to move back in Central Florida. If hurricanes are your main concern, like me, I figured this was a great spot! We live in the "high-ground area", so no storm surge, we're surrounded by lakes, so no open-field twisters and the housing is very reasonable. Lots of hospitals, assisted living, medical offices and homw-health care needs. Be sure to buy a concrete block home :))

Jobs are hard to find acrosss the country, and the pay for nurses is less here than where I was in Maryland, but life is short and I'd rather earn less & love my life & gardening on my days off.
