Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

Declined my spot. Rnhopeful- hopefully you will get a letter!

Thanks ekfie, but I pretty sure I'm retaking the hesi, shouldn't be too hard to raise my score from a 78 to a 90...just gotta improve in chem.

I got declined also for the fall but I am taking more courses and reapplying for spring! My HESI was too low which stinks because i have a high gpa, but the book didn't help with the test at all so at least now I know for next time!

Hi all,

Tomorrow is my last day of level II! Congratulations to those who have made it into the program for the fall and good luck to those who are applying.

To answer some questions from earlier posts, clinical days are not set in stone. The clinical times that are posted on webadvisor change depending on what clinical sites are available. You are randomly placed into a clinical and a professor may and may not try to accommodate your needs. The best thing to do is be as open as possible.

For those of you going into level one, really concentrate when you learn the "nursing process" because it will follow you for the duration of the program.

My most important advice is to do ample amounts of NCLEX questions. Find a group of friends to study with. Each one of you should purchase a different NCLEX book. Before an exam get together and complete all NCLEX questions relating to the test topic.

Good luck to all of you!

i think he most important part about any class is just PAYING ATTENTION and having GOOD NOTES, as long as you do those two things, we all should be good

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. from day one you will learn very quickly that TIME MANAGEMENT is a must.. for the next 2 years( 4 semesters) you will find that managing your time wisely will come of great help in having enough time to UNDERSTAND the material being taught. Socializing will be few and far between. A good study partner(who's totally focused) may be beneficial. But it'll be of your own accord how much you put into being comfortable with the material being taught. If you can get a head with practicing nclex questions.. then you'll be off to a good start. Critical thinking is the mindset you'll have to acquire as you're going through this program. It's not easy but the further you get the more comfortable you'll be with the concept. Good luck to all who have been accepted in to the program.. and get ready to hit the ground running!

i have a question for people already in the program. Do we ever get any critical care experience in any of the clinicals? I am looking into following the career path of a crna and critical care is the bridge to get me there

If you're lucky you may get to see just a snippet of that. The professors will try to get the patients that will give you as much exposure as possible to what you're learning. That's not always the case. Sometimes you go on a unit and all is quite or not much to do,or the patient may be too unstable to be assigned to you. Or you'll be doing nothing but giving meds and all that's on your mind is that you don't screw up with 5 rights of medicaton administration.

holy crap my status changed to admitted on 5/24, are they messing with me??

Yayyy! Congrats RNHopeful1!!
