Bergen Community College Nursing Evening 2015

Published

Hey everyone, I know its early but I was just wondering who was going to apply for the 2015 Evening Nursing program. I have attempted to apply for the 2014 day program but was denied due to the fact that my "Chemistry" prerequisite class was unacceptable. Anyways, I was hoping we could all help each other out when the time comes.

:D

Alot of the nurses recommend Merrell Euro moc pro. Honestly though, just get shoes that are comfortable for standing long periods. When I worked in a kitchen, I had to stand for 11 hours straight. Although I dont like them, i had crocs and they were pretty decent though Im sure a good pair of sneakers will do as well.

I have to go try the Merrells out but are they acceptable? Do they cover your entire foot? It looks croc like...

I will also try Road Runners on Route 4. I usually never wear sneakers unless I'm at the gy

May the sneaker shopping begin... after the holidays lol

Air Max! Theeee best!!!! Lol

I got air max as well haha

Im not really sure about the merrells. I guess its best to call and ask before you buy?

Hahaha!

Everyone is so awesome. Can't wait to meet everyone at orientation. Air Max it is!! Gives everyone an extra inch of height =)

I'm trying to hold off on the uniforms Its just too much right now. We don't need them till clinical a right? Which won't be till end of February? I don't know where I heard that.

Also does anyone know what's in the skills kit, I asked the book store, the guy haas no idea..

hey Khla, I believe its a bunch of practice tools we use before we head to clinicals? like IV drips and all that.

Heres a video of a student nurse pack that she got from school (not our school)

Maybe it will give you an idea of what we can expect from the nursing kit?

also, i dont think the kit includes the stethoscope or the pocket organizer with bandage scissors. You might as well get that from Belles uniform which is what I did.

Lemme know if this helped you

Hey Khla and everyone,

I did a little digging around and came across a previous forum which a post from DaddyO

Here it is:

the kit comes with a gown, syringes, catheter kits, meds, gloves, face mask, iv bag and accessories, sterile field stuff…etc…..basically all that you will need for your validations and to practice at home.

you can also use what is available in the nursing lab as well.

you will need to get the bandage scissors (good to have but you may not use right away), stethoscope (make sure it has the bell and diaphragm)….and i believe i had a pen light in my kit…i am almost certain of this. you will definitely need the pen light…and if you can get a small ruler that would be helpful too.

also, some profs will prefer that you take vitals manually …so if you don’t already have…and can spare it….it may be worth getting a sphygmometer…(not mandatory…just a suggestion) to practice prior. another thing, some floors will only have 2 vital machines…..and with their being 8 – 10 students taking vitals at once….this may slow you down…so another reason to invest in this.

hope this helps :D

Thanks guys it's helped a lot! any idea when clinicals start?

From previous posts, it is assumed around February to March? All I know is that there is no clinicals until we pass the pharm test. During the days we have clinicals, there will be a class held instead. Buuuuut again I dont know hahaha

so nervous...

Ok thanks! I just wish the info was available.
