Welcome to AN! While you're a tech and in nursing school, the thing is you won't truly understand what a nurse does until you're doing it. It's so much more than just passing meds. That being said, if the nurses never help out with answering call bells or toileting patients, that's not a good work environment. It's not like that everywhere, although nurses are frequently busy doing things that can't be delegated.
Ok then don't be a nurse. Quit and do something else. Simple answer. Life isn't that complicated. If you are in nursing school and have no idea if it is like "being a tech" then I don't know what to tell you. You are working with nurses all day and in nursing school and you have "no idea what the hell they do"? If you "have no idea what the hell they do" WHY are you in nursing school? Maybe find out before you spend 50K on a BSN. Maybe you would prefer to run a business? Maybe you would rather be a carpenter?

Hey guys
im currently in nursing school at a BSN program I've worked extremely hard to get into. I even have 2 years of tech experience under my belt. First, I was wondering if nursing is anything like being a tech. Because most days it's extremely annoying only being good for taking people to the ****** bathroom. And being relied on to do EVERYTHING for everyone.
Based on where I work the nurses never take patients to the bathroom or do tech stuff they will literally sit right by a call light and not answer it & wait for me to get it. And the pt to tech ratio is 18:1 while nurses get 4 pts max. Sometimes I wonder what the hell nurses actually do besides pass medications. Since I'm in nursing school I understand it's important but it doesn't take the whole shift to pass meds so what else do nurses really do.....
