Being called a LPN without license?

Good day everyone,

I had a question on which I would like your thoughts.  I recently left an organization for many reasons, but this one really steamed me.  I worked there as a LPN who passed meds and my pay rate reflected such.  I worked with this gentleman who I got along with but I always had this gut feeling like something was wrong.  So one day he tells me that he is going to nursing school to which I thought "hey that's great, good luck to you!". However the whole time, he never mentions nursing school only EMT school.  He later tells me that he is either an EMT or Paramedic (I forgot which) and that the organization has him in the employee registry as "Licensed Practical Nurse".  So I'm obviously confused and when I mentioned it to my higher ups, she corroborated the story and verified the whole thing.  He then later tells me that he is an LPN in the database so that he can get the LPN pay rate.

Am I right to be infuriated about this?  I am an LPN and I worked my hind end off to get to where I am and I sacrificed so much to earn these letters after my name.  Somebody just refers to themselves as one while being an EMT. Now I'm not ragging on EMTs or Paramedics AT ALL because I have nothing but respect for First Responders.  But I think if you're an EMT, say that you're one; if you're a Nurse, say that you are one.

What do you all think?

Is he claiming to be an LPN?  Or, is he merely stating that he is being listed as an LPN, as your supervisor corroborated?

Maybe he is listed in the same pay category as an LPN.  Does his badge read LPN?

Where I work, I am on the same contract and pay scale as teachers. That doesn't mean I am a teacher, just treated and paid like one from HR.

THIS^^^. They prob just don't have a specific job title, already created, in which to plop him. So the easiest thing was to just classify him as an LPN. Now, if he were PRACTICING tasks or identifying himself as an LPN, then I'd blow a whistle.

But sounds like you're just making a mountain out of a molehill. In the big picture of life, this seems like small potatoes.

From the tone of your early post, it sound like all was NOT pleasant at your facility, and maybe this guy was in the mishmash. Maybe???
