Ok, 5 months now into my 1st nursing job in LTC. I am told I am the "midnight nurse supervisor", because basically I am the only nurse who actually works full time.
I am getting burned out and FAST. I don't know if I'm coming or going anymore. We have one midnight nurse who just doesn't want to work(she is supposedly the other FT nurse). So, she called off for 5 days stating she has "Pink eye". Then, on her night back, she called off stating --ok, now get ready for this one--cellulitis of the face. :roll
So put me on my schedule now of : 9 days on, 1 night off, 5 days on, and 2 nights off. I am so furious how the DON doesn't do anything about this. It really upsets me having to work ALL THE TIME. :angryfire
I guess I just needed to vent. So now I will get ready to go to work, lol, and try to stay awake!!! :selfbonk:
I know what ya mean... I have been in LTC for a year now and I do love my job, I don't like one of the nurses I have to work with. VERY long story behide that one. Our home was having nursing cuts do to not having very many res. ( we hold 75 and we were down to 48) and I was the last one to get on, so I thought I was sure to go. Was I... NO it seems like I have got nothing but overtime. I have worked anywhere from 17 to 10 days on and one day to two days off and then I am back some of those days being 16 hours days and some being 12 and 8's. When my DON came to me last and asked if I could work some days I told her NO I WAS TIRED and needed to be off... some how I still got put on those days to come in. I am not looking for a new job d/t I feel like I am putting my Res. in danger if I am tried and can't get a day off. Like I have heard others say on her the DON doesn't care b/c it's not their butt that is on the line it's OURS!

I agree with Fiona59. I would want to be in a unionized position any day and pay the dues. Call in is done on a seniority basis and if it isn't done right, and you should have been called in, you get the pay anyway. Things like that make it all worth it.
