Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I know there are a bunch of threads floating around but I thought it would be nice to have one "YAY, I'm in!!" thread for Fall 2009.

I just received my acceptance to Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans for the Fall 2009 semester!

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! When did you apply to Charity?

Great News everyone! I am still doing my pre reqs... just wondering when did you all apply to your programs, what is a typical waiting period?

I didn't even know I could apply until two weeks before the due date. I literally sent out my application the day it was supposed to be postmarked. I wanted to apply for Early Decision, but the due date had passed by the time I realized I could apply. But someone suggested that I tried calling the staff and ask if it was possible and they said yes! So I was able to find out about my acceptance less than a month. In other words, there is no set time on applying, just as long as you get in by the deadline. Some schools will allow you to apply before you finish your prereqs, but you do have to finish them before you start their nursing programs. Keep in mind that schools might have rolling admissions so it would be advantageous to send your application early on.

la mama, I applied sometime in December, everything had to be in by December 15th for my school and I got my letter of acceptance on January 22nd, but my school said they send out the letters from January - March.

Conragts Gaileyt, I just wanted to how was the entracnce exam for svcmc.... How was the verbal section and the critical thinking, how long was the exam? How was the interview.... was there 1 person interviewing you or more than 1 person? And also did you have an high gpa because mines is decent but I got A's and B's in all my sceince classes. Thanks

Hi I'm new here and trying to work out the kinks Congrads in getting in LCCC I read that you heard that people r not doing well on the reading part where did you here this from? And also r they going to change the score needed to get in on the net? I am one of those people how did u have enough time to read and get the questions done? Thanks notjustadreamer

Notjustadreamer, thank you :]

And I heard that I think from the one woman in the nursing building, I forget her name, but she is in the office when you go in on the LEFT hand side, first one down the hallway. I think she's the director, but I can't be sure. And I haven't heard anything about them changing the required NET score. Hahah to be honest with you, I don't know how I got it all done in time. I almost didn't. I only got a 70% on the reading, so I didn't do a whole lot better than what was needed but she said that was really good so, I was iffy on it, but I decided to stick with it and it paid off :]

Good Luck, are you awaiting acceptance?

I was accepted to St. Elizabeth School of Nursing for this fall (2009)!! I'm super excited to get started...I'll be in the accelerated program. Anyone else?

Congrads to everyone who got in to their schools all your hard work is paying off. xlilchatonx thanks for getting back to me. I am waiting to hear something I don't think I got in this year because of my net scores. Got a 97 in mat but a 61 in reading. You have 2 get a 65 or better in both. Also how about the gpa do you know what they are looking for? Do you have any hints on how to do better in the reading? Did you take the prep class if so did it help? I figure I waited this long to get in I can wait another year I still have two more pre rec classes to take. And also I will work on pulling my reading net score up. Hope fully I will get that wonderful congrats letter one day.

Hiya, I'm sorry about your reading score, you did FANTASTIC on the math though! Yes, you are correct, you do need at least a 65 on both of them to even be considered for the program :(

As far as GPA goes they want a minimum of a 2.5 GPA (Cumulative).

Yes I did take the Prep class that the school offered and yes, I feel that it DID help me because it was taught by someone that teaches in the nursing program so she KNOWS what they're looking for. And she told you how to figure things out, it was very helpful. Also did you purchase the NET handbook? The college sells it in the book store, BUT you can also go to the school's library and use a library card to get it out, if you don't have a library card that's fine it's free to get one. Just go in and ask them where the books are for the Nurses Entrance Exam, the one you want is a small book. I'd recommend going to the book store so you can SEE the book first.

I would suggest before you read the paragraph to read the question first. I also scanned over the answers, but when I read I scan too, I read a bunch of words at once not just one at a time, if I have trouble with something then I will, but I don't know I just practiced, I practiced EVERY DAY several times a day before I took the NET. The thread "All about the NET" has some great links to use for practicing, I'd definitely recommend that.

What classes do you still need to take? I still need 2 more pre reqs too. I will be taking them in the summer, but I may change my mind and only take one of them in the summer and the other one in the fall with my nursing class.

You'll get your letter :]

I have the book and i've been following the "All about the Net Test" thread but I just can't seem to do better in the reading. May be the prep class will help. And also to learn how to speed read . I know another problem that I have, I get very nervous when I take these tests. How do you stay calm ? I seem to panic and blank out . Precious time is wasted. Thanks Again for the encouragement about the letter. Oh b for I forget I have only A&P II and Micro. How about you? I have been very discouraged this year so I took this semester off . It feels weird but this way I can focus on the Net. You see I'm not a traditional student. I waited this long to go back to school one more year won't matter. I love to read about young students like you getting what they want when their young. You don't want to b like me going to college this late in life!

Oh by the way I answered you back on my page :]

And hey! I only have A&P 2 and Micro left also :] I'm taking them this summer! As of right now at least, it depends on whether or not I feel A&P 1 is too difficult, if I feel it is I will take A&P 2 during the summer and Micro in the fall.

Aw thank you :] I'm glad you are going back. Heck even what I'm going for now, 10, 20 years down the road I might change what I like and end up going back too. I love it when "older" "non-traditional" students are in my classes, mainly because they're really serious about their schooling and they have a lot of wonderful knowledge to share, I really enjoy being classmates with them. And I find it really encouraging for MYSELF too! I think if they can go back after being out of school for however many years and do well then I can too!! :] Plus it helps getting a different perspective on things :] Most of the nursing students that are in my classes are older, but the young ones in it are serious too, so that's great.

I just found out actually today from a classmate that spoke with the nursing counselor on Friday that about 2000 students applied and 150 were accepted to Main Campus & 40 to Kulpmont (I wrote you this in the message but idk if you read it or not) You're time will come :] And when it does, keep in touch, maybe I can give you a heads up :]
