Just curious....was reading through some posts that mentioned that charge nurses handle "bedflows" or that someone was a "bedflow" coordinator.
What is bedflow???

Bedflow is moving pts through the hospital.
Lets say a pt in ER needs and ICU bed. ICU needs to move a pt to a Medical bed. Medical unit needs to discharge a pt or move a pt to a sub-acute unit.
Sub-acute must first discharge someone home or to a nursing home or whatever.
So - to move 1 pt to ICU it can require the move of several pt. A bedflow co-ordinator can help work this out.

Sounds like something nasty that I wind up cleaning up.
