Becoming a CRNA but living in Canada

Published

ok so I am going to be in grade 11 this month and I'm a citizen of Canada. I plan to take the SAT tutor and apply to Ohio State University because there are a lot more opportunities of getting a job in that state. Do you think this plan will work out. Also if it does not go so well for getting accepted to Ohio State University, I can do 2 years at University of Toronto, but I'm also not sure if completing 2 years here in Canada can get me admitted in an American University, can that happen? Also if I were to complete all my 4 years and become an RN and complete a year of volunteering can I complete a CRNA program in the States and still be accepted. Sorry I know this is asking a lot but I really feel I have a passion in becoming a nurse and having the opportunity to get my Masters in nursing is such an amazing experience.

Thank you all that read and if you can answer my questions thoroughly I'll greatly appreciate

As a fellow Canadian, I cannot honestly answer the acedemic questions regarding Canadian and US universities. But I can tell you that CRNA is NOT allowed to practice in Canada and you will need 2 years ICU or ER experience before you can even apply to a program.

Good luck in your studies.

After you get your BSN you will have to get some experience in critical care nursing before you can apply to a CRNA program. I think they ask for at least 2 years experience.

You do not have to go the CRNA route in order to get a Masters in nursing, there are other areas and you can do a Masters in Canada, just not CRNA.

Being an AAU member institution you shouldn't have any problems transferring from the University of Toronto to a college in the USA. Provided your grades are up to snuff. As an Ohio State Alumni I will tell you that admissions to the university have become HIGHLY competitive let alone admissions to the nursing program. Also as far as I know there are only 2 CRNA programs here in Ohio. One program at Case Western Reserve University. The other at the University of Akron. Mind you those programs are still a long way off for you.

So do you find it better if I finish University here in Canada and complete a year of ICU volunteering than move to the states and complete a my masters in nursing becoming a crna
