Becoming A LPN While In RN Program

Is this possible.

I'm hoping it it. I know to take the CNA exam, all that was required was a signature from the dean saying that the classes taken are in accord with the same ones in a CNA program.

So, after this next year, I'm hoping I can sit for the LPN exam. By the spring, I will have one round of Med-surg, Peds/OB, pharmacology, and pathophysiology behind me.

Anyone with experience?

I did it while in a BSN program in CA. Several of my classmates did it also.

I would love to be able to do that! Im going to check with Ohio's BON on Monday to see if its allowed. My school has an LPN-RN transition program and the LPN's start at the second year, so Im assuming the first year of our program is equivalent to LPN education.

BUT my program doesnt have a separate pharmacology class. The pharm is just integrated throughout the program. I would assume this would create an issue since there is probably a decent amount of Pharm on the NCLEX-PN. Anyone know anything about that?

I did not have much pharm on my NCLEX PN, but they did ask about some meds that I had no idea what they were. My BSN program had integrated pharm at the time. If your school approves your application, I would independently study pharm so as to avoid any surprises on the NCLEX.

I live in NY and they no longer allow this. Do you think you would be able to take the LPN test in another state after completing enough RN classes...even though you live in NY?

Each state has different requirements of how nursing programs are run. My guess is that unless you're in a program that is designed to prepare you first to be an LPN, then an RN....you won't be allowed to sit for the exam.
