Blount County is at the Foothills of the Smokies (it borders the park) and is very pretty and near the Little River. Sevier County is on the other side and prices are a bit more reasonable on in Sevier. Stay away from Gatlingburg/Pigeon Forge unless you love touristy stuff and traffic... Blount is considered "the peaceful side of the Smokies" although a ton of people fromMichigan and Florida are moving there and it's getting slightly more crowded.
I'm looking for a vacation home for my mother in law. She mentioned TN and I was wondering if any of you could give me some suggestions as to where to start looking. Near the mountains of course! Maybe near some kind of water. River, lake, stream, drizzle... :)I'd really appreciate it!
Anywhere near Boone, North Carolina is ideal for a vacation home. Right in Boone can be a bit touristy, but it's still better than what you will see in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Banner Elk is another great place. Scenes from there in winter could go right on Christmas cards.
Peaceful and serene. Close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Very Beautiful.
the hamblen or jefferson county areas, cherokee lake borders hamblen county and douglas lake borders jefferson county. its about a 20-30 min drive from lake to lake. morristown is in hamblen county, its not a tourist town and has about 50,000 people. serveral larger cities are 45 min-1 hour away( knoxville, johnson city )
Townsend is a beautiful area that if she wanted to rent in the off season there would be no problem. The traffic in and out of Gatlinburg can be irritating at times. Pigeon Forge personifies tourest trap. Dandridge lake is beautiful and not to far from East Knoxville. Ashville, NC is beautiful and very "artsy." Alot depends on where she is moving from and what she wants. The best would be to visit and look a the various areas. Each person has there likes and dislikes.
Funny! I am one of the many that moved here from Florida. There seems to be quite the influx, especially after the hurricanes of '04 and '05. We moved to Knoxville, and it is Little Big Town. Hope your mother-in-law likes ORANGE:barf01: It depends on if she wants quiet or tourist. There are quiet areas throughout east TN, but I can safely recommend East Knoxville/Dandridge areas. St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville is the only one I feel 100% confident in their care. The doctors are very good that are affiliated there. I think you would take that into consideration. Hope she likes it here. Anyone coming up from Florida LOVES the fall here. Truly beautiful.
