BCIT nursing Sept 2015 intake

Published

Hello all!

This is my third time starting a forum (aka my third time applying to a program...).

I am planning on applying to BCIT BSN for September 2015 intake.

Applications have already opened, but I am still waiting on marks. In my case, I have everything but my grade 11 courses (ha). I am currently finishing up Chem 11 and Math 11 because I had a C+.

....I guess grade 11 really does matter.

The deadline is April 1st. Here are the prerequisites as of January 2015:

*note: all changes are in italics

  • English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country
    (previous requirement: B)
  • Chemistry 11 (73%)
    (previous requirement C+)
  • Math: one of the following:
    (previous requirement C+)
    • Principles of Mathematics 11 (73%) or 12 (67%) or
    • Applications of Mathematics 12 (73%) or
    • Foundations of Mathematics 11 (73%) or 12 (73%) or
    • Pre-Calculus 11 (73%) or 12 (67%) or
    • MATH 0007 (73%)

  • Academic Foundations requirement: Completion of 18.0 university credits with a minimum of (67%) in each of the following courses:
    • ENGL 1177 Academic Writing or a first-year transferable English composition course* (3.0 credits)
    • Anatomy & Physiology* - must have been completed within the past 3 years (6.0 credits)
    • PSYC 1101 Introductory Psychology 1 or an equivalent Psychology course* (3.0 credits)
    • General Education [PDF] electives at a 100 level minimum in at least 2 different academic disciplines (6.0 credits)

Feel free to share your story or concerns. I've found it useful to have a forum open for people to discuss their concerns throughout the process.

All the best to you!

Hi I am just curious, what requirements that BCIT nursing department is really looking for?

I have my Bachelor degree in Nursing outside of Canada about 10 years ago. Also, I had 5 years work experience as an ER nurse back home. I already passed the English requirement in BCIT because English is not my first language, and I also passed physiology and anatomy challenge exam. I passed NCLEX about 10 years ago, and registered in New York state but I haven't practiced as a RN over there.

I moved to Vancouver 4 years ago with my husband, then I had kids and hasn't worked for 4 years already. Now my kids are old enough going to school, so I am thinking to pursue my nursing career again in BC. Even I had all my credential assessed in BCIT, I still don't know if nursing department would recognize my educational credential. Also, would my age be a problem?I am 32 years old, is there anyone has the same situation as me?

Thank you!

You sound like a great candidate!! BCIT gives preference to individuals with experience, which it sounds like you have a lot of. Also, if you already have a Bachelor degree that is good too because they require post secondary credits. Regarding your question about them recognizing your credential, you would have to contact them directly and ask. Lastly, 32 is young! Plus there is nothing wrong with 32 years experience in the university of life., the more experience the better.

Has anyone heard back if they are accepted yet!!???

Hi

i haven't heard back anything either. Just waiting

No news here either :( I am stressing out! waiting has been so hard! I guess if we don't find out today tomorrow is the day!!

I think we will hear back at the end of the day. The august 2014 intake got the majority of their emails on the 29 near the end of the day. So hopefully we will too... Good luck everyone!!!

I've been checking like every few hours! I keep thinking they will tell us today :( probably not though lol, however I hope your right @scrubs!

the wait is driving me crazyyy!!!

Oh dear lord this is getting painful. I have friends texting me most of the last week going "did you find out yet"! I keep thinking, they know already, just send me a simple yes or no already so I can get on with my life!

I am not a very patient person...

On the bright side, I've had a few awesome days at work that really solidified that I want this. I got to spend time in the trauma room of my local ER when we brought a patient in (I'm a paramedic now) and it was so crazy busy that we ended up helping out a lot.

So much related experience that's great :) If you're a paramedic now I am sure you will get accepted! I Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for all of us!

Hello to all! I am so so happy! I still can not belive it! I got an Acceptance offer! Check myBCIT! Can't wait for all of you to get the good news!

I just got my conditional acceptance as well!!!!!! WAHOOOOO, no more waiting!

YES! No letter yet, but my application status is changed to "[TABLE=class: datadisplaytable, width: 80%]
